Hello Firediver20 and welcome to the forum. 

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diganosed with advanced prostate cancer. It's understandable that you're feeling lost - I think lots of our members here will have felt exactly that same way at times. 

I'm going to tag in [@Billygoatt]‍ to this post. Billy has been living with what he calls his "uninvited guest" (aka advanced prostate cancer) for a number of years. I know he'll pop along and share some words of support with you before too long. 

I know that lots of members here will have had to go through the difficult process of telling their children that they have been diagnosed with cancer. I'm presuming that your children are grown up but as with kids of all ages, I think that most have an uncanny sense of knowing when something is wrong with a parent. I'm sure that they'll have lots of questions and if they, or indeed you, would like to speak to one of our nurses for some support and information then you're most welcome to call them. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hi firedriver I've have got prostate Cancer was diagnosed Feb 2016 gone to lymph nodes, spine, ribs, pelvis and a lung on permanent hormone therapy, classed as palliative care, psa was 1581 stage 4 gleason 8 T3B N1 M1B,. Had cemo at beginning of treatment. Living a normal life with my uninvited guest including working in a metal fabrication and welding factory had to retire to look after my disabled wife she needs 24 /7 care. If i can help in any way please let me know. Best wishes.....

P.s it depends on age of your kids, if young just tell them your ill and you'll nead some treatment. If older tell them the truth. Good luck.Told all of mine when i sore them, kids, grandkids who told their kids no problems..

I'm 52 and was diagnosed in November last year PSA 3465 gleeson of  4+3 . I also have children, the youngest though is 15 and I had the same problem of how to tell him. Partly becasue of losing close family members with cancer so just the word can be too much. I'm working on the fact that Im going to be here and hanging around for a number of years so theres no direct rush to tell everything. He knows that I have cancer and that there are many things thta can be done. In time he could see me progressivly getting worse but there are many new treatments coming out all the time, so I don't want to be frightening him now when my own emotions are all the place. There will be plenty of time
