Results back from biopsy quicker than we thought

My partner had a biopsy last week in his prostate , they said we should get results in 4 weeks . He has previously had a exam of prostate , slightly large , but doctor said it might be due to his age , PSA results only just over 4 , scan everything fine .  The consultant wanted him to have a mri but he couldn't face the scanner so had biopsy. After biopsy the surgeon came in and said everything looked okay . Today we have had a letter through to get results on Friday this is only just one a week since biopsy , I am really worried there is something wrong as the results are so quick .

    Try not to read anything into the fact that the results are in so quickly - it's good that you won't have to wait 4 anxious weeks to find out more.

    Hi Lindsey,

    I just want to wish your partner all the best for his results tomorrow. It may just be that his consultant has rushed his results through for the holidays.

    Hi Lindsey75. Welcome to the forum.

    I had a radical prostatectomy in 2010 and I've been hanging around on this forum since 2011.  

    Please don't read anything into this.  The quick turnarount doesn't change the result. It is also very common to call patients for a face to face consultation no matter what the results are; sometimes the appointment is arranged even before the results are back from the lab (which might be the case for your husband), and if the result isn't cancer, your husband may still benefit from treatment to shrink the prostate and improve his symptoms. 

    Finally, although I'm not a doctor I'd like to offer a few words of reassurance.  Your husband's PSA is actually very low so the chance of cancer being found is still slim - and even if it is, then it's going to be at the earliest stage.  With early stage prostate cancer, often all that's required is active monitoring to see that it is stable; if treatment is necessary, then the chance of a cure is very high indeed. 

    My own PSA was 5.6 in 2010. I've not needed any further treatment after surgery and I'm still here to tell the tale.
