Hello, I was referred to an ENT specialist after I discovered a lump at the back of my neck. One weeks after the GP referral I had my first appointment the 27th November 2019. The ENT doctor examined my neck throat and then putting this camera thing down my nostril asked me lots and lots of questions. Straight after I went for an ultrasound then back to the ENT doctor, who called the surgeon to examine me. The specialist went to say, I will need an operation asap.  I will probably need to have part of my tongue soft palate larynx and maybe my back teeth removed.  I was given a consent form to sign, with a very brief description of what I'm going to have done " tonsiloctomy with a throat scrape" and whilst the surgeon is in there they might remove anything that seems to be infected! I ask if its "Sinister " what she can see....she replies " highly probably" I'm in absolute shock!! ENT doctor telling me over and over " don't forget you must have the MRI before surgery...just in case your surgery date comes before MRI. I'm sobbing uncontrollably. Thinking it's really bad and I'm going to die!! 13th December I have my MRI scan...17th December pre OP MRI....19th December CT scan. 27th December my operation. To this date nobody has told me absolutely nothing to what is happening to me...do they think I have cancer...if so how bad...what do my scans show....just absolutely nothing.  Surely this isn't normal. Please can someone advise. Don't get me wrong I'm very grateful for the speed they're moving...Thank you for reading xx This is my first post, so please forgive me if I have posted on the wrong forum

  • Hi nina don't worry your on the right forum, you've just joined the club nobody wants to be in, i think that you have a few words with the next Dr or specialist you see and tell them you want to know what's going on because nobody's told you anything. Or can you get to see your own Dr and ask them to explain everything to you. Good luck.......

  • Hi Nina, firstly good luck with your operation. I've got a list of questions written down from the cancer UK site in readiness for my first appointment in January so it might be worth a look as it could help and make you feel a little bit of control on this rollercoaster. I p,an you give mine to my son just in case or in the likelihood I get too upset to ask them

I think your advice is great! I will definitely write down my questions
