Diagnosed breast cancer but feeling OK - am I odd?

Hello,

Initial diagnosis just RHS breast at stage 2 but grade 3 so having chemo pre surgery, 1st EC on 29th August, awaiting CT, bone scan & biopsy on LHS, results due 21st August.  Had really quick & excellent treatment compared to many plus am a stoic/daft Yorkshire lass who is ready for an adventure (although I can think of better ones!!)

Been looking at the forums more so for practical advice re what to expect re chemo, what I should be doing re diet, questions to ask the cancer team who are supporting me.

Told all family & close friends and set up a whatsapp group so they know what I am doing, so far enjoying this as it’s an opportunity for all to be entertained as well as not having to have the same bl00dy conversation over & over. Definitely decided against face book as they're not close & I know it would be filled with motivational quotes - not what I am after at all.

Hopefully there are some other people out there who are feeling relatively positive, in the meantime am off to Edinburgh fringe this weekend to watch some very odd shows - whoop, whoop!

  • Hi Nel

Crikey, is it that long since I last sent you a note...how time flies eh? All good here, health is great (though did have annoying covid symptoms a month ago, thankfully all gone now), and am back to feeling like wonder woman and gyming/ cycling like a loon.

Am actually on holiday at the moment, came up north Thursday and back tomorrow. Can't remember if I told you but my father has terminal cancer ( he was diagnosed a year after me) so am seeing him and his Mrs in lovely leyburn...it is soooo beautiful up here. My father is very tired and can't do alot but still retains the genetic humour that his offspring are also 'blessed' with!

The lovely Adrian is fine and dandy, though missing me..of course! Can't remember if I told you my mother had died, anyway I now have 4 bl00dy cats, having taken on her 2...I have become the crazy cat lady that many of my friends predicted. Thankfully all the cats are getting on ok and my house is not yet swimming in cat urine

Other than the above work is fine but just keeps getting in the way if what I want to do...

I'm, sadly, not surprised you're still waiting news re reconstruction...even before covid the waiting lists were really lengthy, I remember being told on the NHS it would be at least 2 years and am exceedingly grateful that I have private medical insurance through work. I do hope you get a date and things start moving soon, I'm hoping for a Christmas nipple myself to adorn the new boob!!

Right, better start making the most of this, unseasonally glorious Yorkshire weather.

Hope school is fun for little Nel...

    Xx

  • Hi [@Praise]‍

How are you Nel?  Hope all is well.

Just doing some long overdue catching up...must be the time of year?  Are you all set for Christmas? I (sadly) am, tree & decorations up, just the cards to write.  What is Santa bringing Angel this year?  Hope she's not on the naughty list...(you too!)

Is there any news of your reconstruction?  I've got my 2nd phase on Tuesday...looking forward to having nipples and dents filled in...oh and the time off work though not the recovery (can't really have one without the other though!).

Adrian and the many cats are all well, the former will be tending to my every need after Tuesday's op and the latter I am hoping will not destroy the Christmas tree (fingers crossed).

I hope all is going well for you and your family and you are having a good Dec XX

  • Hi Sam

sorry for late reply, every time want to open your message was playing up, server unavailable ooops . Was a bit annoyed though.
Glad to hear from you after ages, so glad because atleast I know you doing well, am well as well. A couple of weeks was experiencing pain , throbbing one down my arm was given strong painkillers but thankfully second week now no pain. One day Angel told me " mum don't need to worry much all I can say " remember when they took out your pampam(breast she says is pampam) nerves are affect so this might be a reason , also do me a favour mum do not wear tight bras they stress operation site" I looked at her n huge hug n kisses because it really made sense since then I chilled n now ok.

Xmas tree is up yes after Angel demonstrated that no old tree but new one " not having this old tree mum , tomorrow after school will take it out, I wish I could have best bad name for your ugly tree"  on my had no choice.

Iam having appointment with Plastic surgeon on 24/12 was supposed to go in person in Nottingham but was moved to telephone one so will know after then. I really need it although sometimes scared of going to theatre lol, had bad experience last time, short of breath.

Am having friend for Xmas on 25 will go to friend having feast.
Wishing you merry Christmas and happy Newyear

    Nellie
