Diagnosed breast cancer but feeling OK - am I odd?

Hello,

Initial diagnosis just RHS breast at stage 2 but grade 3 so having chemo pre surgery, 1st EC on 29th August, awaiting CT, bone scan & biopsy on LHS, results due 21st August.  Had really quick & excellent treatment compared to many plus am a stoic/daft Yorkshire lass who is ready for an adventure (although I can think of better ones!!)

Been looking at the forums more so for practical advice re what to expect re chemo, what I should be doing re diet, questions to ask the cancer team who are supporting me.

Told all family & close friends and set up a whatsapp group so they know what I am doing, so far enjoying this as it’s an opportunity for all to be entertained as well as not having to have the same bl00dy conversation over & over. Definitely decided against face book as they're not close & I know it would be filled with motivational quotes - not what I am after at all.

Hopefully there are some other people out there who are feeling relatively positive, in the meantime am off to Edinburgh fringe this weekend to watch some very odd shows - whoop, whoop!

  • Nel,
Ah shift work, of course!  I just assume that everyone is like me who is a 9-5 office worker who probably works a lot less hard than you do all day given I sit on my bum for 99% of the day.
A 4 year old eh, much fun with that one I'm sure.  Babies for me are quite dull but when the kids can walk & talk & be naughty that's a lot more fun...as long as they are someone else's!
Hope you all have a good 4th party, will it be sugar fuelled with traditional games (hope so!).

Feeling odd but still fine in the scheme of things. Think it will be a smooth ride like you've had.  Don't work too hard.

    Ta

Hi, just wondering how things are going on your "journey", hope all is progressing in a suitably timely fashion.

As you tell from my posts I am still annoyingly (for lots of my friends, real life & otherwise) upbeat and had a really fun & interesting 1st chemo yesterday, really helps to have a fabulous team, which luckily I did.

  • Hi Sam hope you feel ok.

Am ok a bit fatigued but manageable really. Am positive you will be fine and manage it all. Not even working too hard but just want get busy with myself, just 2 nights a week will do if not well then rest but so far so good.

Yea kids are awesome,,,we go for run every evening for 45mims and she always is my pillar, "come on mommy run fast..." I appreciate to have her at this point.

Also try Sam to do more exercise just to release body weakness & fatigue.

    Enjoy your day.

    God bless

  • Hi Sam

I am so glad to hear that your session went well and that you are still keeping up beat and most importantly your humour hasn’t changed lol

  • Patrice,
Am sure the animals are liking it a bit more now, particularly the furrier ones, as  it's cooler, know I am.

Am booked onto the look good..course mid Oct or Nov, there's quite a waiting list, did you have a look at link?  I am reliably informed that you get a vvv large goody bag (someone mentioned £300 worth) of decent brands to take away with you, wasn't why I did it (as didn't know until recently) but another good reason me thinks.

So as you can see from other messages chemo & cold cap (a bit uncomfortable but will definitely do again) was a breeze, but note I do have a higher pain threshold than average.
Am feeling a bit of indigestion this morning but nothing bad at all.
You'll be glad to know that ECHO showed a do have a heart and its not functioning too badly at all (despite smoking at least a pack of 20 a day from early teens to 30).
So you're on for next Tues 3rd then? When do they take your bloods & do your first check with doc then as mine was two days before?
Hope you get your MRI results soon and they're well behaved, mine due mid next week.

Do hope you're ok and not worrying too much, easy to say, more difficult to do, I do appreciate, but based on sample of 2 (me & praise) you'll be fine!!  The hospital staff did comment whilst I was having the EC that they do need to point out vv clearly the side effects but then everyone goes into "what if" mode which is unfortunate as its only a small number who are unlucky enough to suffer.

  • Nel,

are you watching me chilling on my sofa?  You are however bob-on, I do need to get out more & I live near this fabulous price of woodland a stones throw away from my front door.  I did used to be soooper healthy, gym 5 times a week & cycled to work and all but 2 years ago broke my pelvis which took some time to heal properly and have excelled ever since at being the worlds best lazy-ar5e!

Must listen to Nel, must listen to Nel....

  • Hi there, thank you for taking the time to ask

Not doing too bad, full body CT scan booked for Thursday, GP appointment was pretty pointless because she skittered around everything.

In the meantime my humour and positive outlook will no doubt drive every one nuts, not told many at the moment just immediate family and a couple of friends.

Good luck with your treatment hope you continue annoying everyone x

  • Patrice

Hope you're still well and feeling reasonably chipper.  Just wanted to say good luck for 1st chemo tomorrow & hope it goes as funnily & swimmingly as mine did.

Just off anti-sickness & steroid drugs given at chemo session & whilst am vv constipated and feel a little tired & pooey (technical term) am doing well still.

    Good luck X

  • Hi Sam

delighted your handling your Chemo like a pro I pray to god I can do the same!  Can they give you something for the constipation? Yes ready to rock tomorrow had a small bump on the road, they found a second tumour on other breast just home from the hospital this minute from 9 this am, it’s benign, praise the lord xxx

Good luck with CT scan tomorrow.  I think they're the toilet roll (vs the MRI donut) one?  Mine was fine apart from the choice of music, when in those noisy bugg4rs I need some dance music with a funky rhythm to drum out the noise (or at least compliment), what I actually was provided was some aged/very quiet brass band type music which didn't really do the trick.  I has really wanted to play guess the 80s track however...

Despite my bowels letting me down via constipation all well here (stool softener is being couriered by boyfriend as I write) with very few other side effects other than feeling odd!

Am managing to keep self occupied and do some work (not yet sure exactly how effective I'm being though!).

    Have fun

    Sam X
