Whirlwind

Hi ... I went to Gp with totally unrelated condition, because she was concerned I had blood test taken which highlighted cancer markers and within a few weeks I had had anterior resection of bowel .

I'm struggling with this as it all happened so fast.  I’ve just had post op follow up and told all cancer removed and just to have routine follow up plan .

i can’t get my head around it all ... did anyone else feel like this

  • Hi Lotso

Welcome to the forum. It certainly sounds like you've been through a real whirlwind these past few months. It's understandable that you're finding it difficult to process everything that's happened now that you've been told your treatment has finished.

We've some information on our website about coping emotionally but it sounds as if you'd maybe benefit from the opportunity to talk things through with someone. You'd be welcome to call and talk to our team of nurses. They're available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) but you might also consider speaking to your GP about some counselling support.

You've been through an awful lot, remember to be kind to yourself as well. Things take time to heal and to process. You're welcome to use the forum as somewhere to post to try and make sense of what you've been through, to rant or to off load your thoughts and feelings and we'll do our best to support you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lotso

Half way through January 2019 I started getting pains and severe bloating of the stomach every time that I ate something.  After months of severe stomach pain on left hand side, loss in appetite (could only manage to eat child size portions), passing blood and no solid bowel movements, just diarrhea, constant painful wind and feeling like I the bowel was never emptying completely and like I had some kind of blockage.  I had to have a endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT scan and numerous other tests.  Finally on the 3rd of July I got the diagnosis, and it turned out to be Bowel cancer.  On the 8th of July I had surgery, a laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy, which involved removing the sigmoid with the tumour in it and also twenty lymph nodes, four of which were cancerous.  After a week i was discharged and told to go home rest and recover and strictly no going to work.  Then two weeks later the specialist nurse phoned me to see if I was ok and also informed me that I should be getting a letter in the post soon, which will be an appointment to see the oncologist about preventative chemo.  So I await the letter and take that next step.

I am like youirself it all happened so fast I couldn't take it all in, well actually didn't have time to take it all in with the speed of how things happened.  I have good days and I have days were I just want to be on my own to get my head around things.

I hope that all goes well with the follow up plan
