Lump in my armpit

Hi, looking for some advice on what to expect. I found a lump in my armpit about 8 weeks ago and visited the gp she said 1-2cm. we waited a further 3weeks to see if it went down as she was sure it was a lymph node. Still is sure is probably a lymph node however concerned as been raised for so long and some slight swelling and tenderness on side of the breast, no lumps found in my breast and no infections or illness.

Had my second apt last week and as still there have been referred to the breast clinic within 2 weeks. Got a telephone call the following day with an apt for 25th July. What can i expect at the appointment? Have only been told will likely have an ultrasound as 34. Gp did seem concerned what hasnt really put me at ease.

  • HiRachyr1 sounds like a swollen lymph gland could be anything such as an infection where hence the tenderness . You will probably have a scan which will tell the doctors what it may be the scan should certainly be useful and elminate your worst fears . It could be just down to a random bodily change and nothing to worry about . Good Luck Tonybear

  • Hello, I'm in the same boat. Have had my breast clinic appointment. They did a manual examination, then organised a second appointment for an ultrasound. They thought the lymph node was abnormal looking, so did a quick biopsy. Was fine and didn't hurt, so dont worry. My results came back clear from the biopsy but they are still worried about the appearance of the node so now I have to have surgery to have it out for further examination. Good luck with your appointment. Xxx

  • Hi Rachy, I am in the same boat as you, I felt a lump in my armpit a few weeks ago, I think that it has grown since then.  I went to the doctors today  she thought that it was a lymph node and made  an urgent referral for the breast clinic.  Got an appointment for the 27th and was told to expect to be there 3 hours. On the same day I have an appointment for blood tests back at the surgery, she mentioned the word lymphoma .  To say that I am going mad with worry is an understatement, how are you coping? x

  • Hi Jojo, I hope you don’t mind me asking but how long did you have the enlarged lymph node before you saw your doctor and was it painful, mine isn’t? x

  • Glad to hear from others in a similar situation. I got my referral letter through today too what says expect 2-3 hours for the appointment.

Im doing ok and trying not to worry until given a reason to, just hate the waiting.

  • Rachy, how did you get on yesterday?  I hope that you got good news.  My appointment is actually for today and I am terrified, as yousay the waiting is horrible. xx
