Blood in poo. onilne test from amazon confirm blood too.

Hi,

Ive have been worried sick for 4 weeks now. .  Passed a hard stool four weeks ago and new i had aggiated by pile.  After wpiing blood on paper and in toilet.  Even managed a photo of pile which showed a paper cut leaking blood(dont ask how i did that, lol!) . My worries eased.  I consulted doctor who gave me creams etc which clamed things done.  Then started to google about FOB test you can use to detect blood in stool.  Bought one  off internet and  all clear.  Then googled again as various  forums were saying 3 tests should be done on three different occasions. .  Purchased more tests and now have had  three positive results. I see my GP in two days and am worried sick.  I know my pile could have caused this  but what wil my GP do, straight for colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopey.  I suffer from health anxiety and late father had bowel cancer aged 70 , I am 51.  I have no other symtoms just the pile which has bleed on two occasion that i have seen in th past 7 months.  No weight loss, no tiredness.  I feet fit but now worried something is up and i have bowel cancer. Its taking over my life.  Do FOB tests only detect blood from something that is cancer and not  a pile?

  • Hi Tempest1,

I'm sorry you've had these symptoms, but it's good that you have an appointment soon and I hope that goes ok. Make sure you write down any questions you want to ask and try not to google, only a doctor can diagnose you. You've mentioned you suffer from anxiety, Anxiety UK and Welldoing can offer support and information if things feel overwhelming.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Tempest1. Welcome to the forum.

I am not a doctor but I'm pretty sure that a FOB test cannot tell the difference between the blood from a bleeding pile and the blood from a bowel cancer. Certainly a bleeding pile can confound an FOB test.

You're doing the right thing seeing your GP. I'm not sure what the GP might do next, but a colonoscopy is an option. On the other hand, the GP may want you to continue with the cream and try a retest once the pile has healed.  Sorry, I don't know - I can only speculate.

Please keep us posted with what happens, because your feedback helps us to improve our answers.

  • Hi, I saw My GP who said  doing a FOB/FIT  test from GP surgery would give a positive  result as i have a bleeding  internal pile.  The FOB/ FIT test does not tell you where the blood is from, it just show pisitive to  a miniscule amount of blood.   I was advised to take a mild laxative/fibre supplement  to soften my number 2's and help heal the internal pile up as they can keep on bleeding without you actually seeing it. . I have had no more blood for nearly 5 weeks that i cant physically see now so my anxiety has eased a bit. The online FOB test's get mixed reviews so i will be staying away from them for awhile  as this has not helped the anxiety.  I will monitor how i go.  Thanks for your kind input into this matter.
