  • Hello Gman2017,

Thank you for posting.  I see from your post that you are worried about these symptoms.  The best thing to do is to go and see your doctor about these problems.  When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers on an online forum, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better.  And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Gman2017. Welcome to the forum.

I should start out by saying that I'm not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications.

Bowel cancer at 18 is very rare.  It's something affect old codgers like me, not youngsters like you.  What you've got is almost certainly something else. Blood is something to tell your doctor about, and the stringy snot sounds like it might be mucus, which is a symptom of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. However, only a doctor can make an actual diagnosis.

Please go to your GP, but don't be worried that you're going to be told you have cancer.  The doctor might be able give you an instant diagnosis, or might refer you to a consultant for more tests. If that happens then just accept them and go with the flow.

Please phone and make an appointment and let us know how you get on. Your feedback helps us improve our answers.
