New to here with a question

11 years ago I had a major operation to remove a cancer lump from my tongue followed by radiotherapy and all has been well.  However over the last week on the side which I had the lump removed I have been getting a lot of pain within my teeth.  It's a bit like toothache but when I put my teeth together there's a fullness feeling (hard to describe).  I know that radiotherapy weakens the bone within the jaw.  Does anyone know if this could be what the pain is.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community SuB.

I'm sorry about the pain you've been experiencing recently; it's understandable why you'd be worried.

Unfortunately no-one on the forum can advise you on this but as it's causing you concern it may be worth seeing your doctor (or possibly dentist) about this as they'll be able to tell you more.

Hopefully you'll hear from some of our members who have had similar issues soon but fingers crossed it isn't an indication of anything sinister.

    Kind regards,

  • Morning Sue . Have a look at the discussion 'Radiotherapy for throat cancer' . Ask your question there and you will get some help and advice . Such a worry isn’t it ? . I have had loads of great advice from people in that area.

  • Hi SuB

I'm not medically quaified but I had all my back teeth extracted before radiotherapy last June for Tonsil Cancer and was told it was better to remove before radiotherapy as it can be more troublesome during or after treatment so it may well be the case.Surprising symptoms are after 11 yrs but I would probably suggest speaking to radiotherapy support team at local hospital or as Steph suggests, seeing your dentist would make sense in the first instance

    kind regards
