Hi everyone
I need some reassurance - silly as the doctor has already given me some but my head is working way too fast. I keep googling which is something I shouldnt do.
I had to have cardiac tests due to a family history of HCM. All clear on that front which is fabulous. But I got a call yesterday from the cardiologist. The cardiac CT scan showed a nodule in the right upper lobe. He asked if I had known about this and I said no. I had chest xrays done last year for asthma diagnosis and they were clear.
He said he needed to repeat the CT scan in June but he wasnt unduly concerned. So thats great news. I told him I wasnt worried. He then said to make sure I made contact with him two weeks after the CT was done if I hadnt heard from him. "Dont assume all is fine if you dont hear back, make sure you follow up." were his words. That made me worry slightly lol
Family history - I am 48 - smoked until I was in late twenties - five a day - more on the weekends. I have a cough like a smoker - in fact most people think I smoke heavily but thats been there for years. I have breathlessness and sometimes the asthma meds work and sometimes they dont. I had full lung function tests done last August - no signs of copd or anything like that. The spirometry tests showed I reacted postively to ventolin hence asthma was diagnosed.
But my GP thought the breathlessness was related to heart issues more than asthma due to how I react to meds. I dont have reasons for being breathless i.e. it can hit whether I am stationary or walking or exercising or climbing a stairs.
Cardiac MRI showed no signs of HCM, Echo was clear, no furring of arteries on CT scan. Dont have results of ECG yet but assume it was fine.
Mother died of breast cancer -diagnosed at 52. Father has had prostate cancer. Grandfather died from emphysema - smoking cigarettes while pulling oxygen tank - back in a different time! Paternal grandfather and great uncles all dead by 50 due to HCM - no lung cancer on either side of family. I am not losing weight - I wish I was. I am about two stone overweight which could account for breathlessness I guess.
Wondering if anyone had this experience from cardiac CT scan. Is there anything I can do but wait?
