Terrified and 62. Womb cancer?

Im terrified . Im 62 obese and suddely started bleeding last saturday. Doctor referred me under 2wk emergency pathway.no other symptons at all. Last period some 10 years ago.. ive got period pains now and a period type bleed. It came from nowhere . I have a blood test today and ultrasound thjs afternoon and im scared as such a wimp. I know i shouldnt but keep googling and have now convinced myself of the very worst outcome.

  • Hi there willow ...

Your not alone, I don't know anyone who wasn't scared waiting for tests and results .. I'm nearly 65 and still get nervous when tests and appointments come around ...

But things have come a long way , and things like treatments have improved so much ... so try and keep busy ... that's what we all try to do while waiting ... and remember it may not be cancer ... fingers crossed .. there's lots of us 60 something's on here ... and that nasty Google always gives worse case scenario ...

So hold on ... and you know we don't realise just how strong we can be till our backs against the wall .. this is a great place to put all those feelings down ... we've all been there, we know just what it's like ..

I had my scan this afternoon the lady said that my womb lining is very thick and i have a 4.2 cm thyroid but would not say anymore. I have a consultants appointment on saturday where i assume they will take biospys. Not looking forward to that. I am trying to resist the urge of googling !!!!

  • Hi Willow

Firstly remember Dr Google is not your friend. He’s a nasty fraud who leads you up the garden path, ,bullies you into thinking the worst and scares you witless! However I did consult him in the early days and ended up driving myself crazy.....we all do it.

I was diagnosed with womb cancer in April 2018. I had a hysterectomy, tubes and ovaries removed through keyhole surgery and I was home the next day and recovered within four week. Unfortunately histology upgraded the cancer from 1 to 3 and although it was contained in the womb it was far more aggressive. So twelve weeks after the first op I had another major procedureb where they removed 92 lymph nodes for testing. Fortunately they were clear so I had three sessions of internal radiotherapy which sounds far worse than it is. This week I had my first follow up appt and was told by the oncologist there was no sign of the big C. Next check up in four months. My surgeon and support nurses were brilliant. I’m not saying I wasn’t ever scared or tired or just plain climbing the walls but it was all doable. So even if the news isn’t as good as you would like there are treatment plans that work.

And incidentally I was 64, obese and not particularly fit and have been a type 1 diabetic on insulin injections for 57 years. What got me through? Determination, being positive whenever I could be  and the wonderful friends I’ve met on this website.

Im sending a virtual squeeze from my hand to yours and hope everything goes well. You can send me a friend request if you would like to talk more. I will always answer.
