Radiation burns/Dermatitis under my breast

Hi, its now 4 weeks since I completed my 3 weeks of radiotherapy and week 3 I began to have soreness and itching under my breast. My GP prescribed caneston which worsened the symptoms. I spoke to the radiotherapy department who advised me to ask for Flamazine. I started using it 2weeks ago with little imprrovemnt if anything it got even worse.  was represcribed flamazine as the tube can only be used for 7 days. I have a very slight improvement but when I went to the hospital (after arranging by telephone) I found the Radiographer to be quite dissmissive despite my obvious discomfort and concern. I wonder if there are any other suggestions for the treatment of this condition?

  • I am sorry to read this, I shall be keeping an eye on your post as I will be starting rads when chemo is done.....I do hope you find some miracle cream....be sure and let us know if you do? Xxx

  • Hi olls

I had the same but all over, I was prescribed zerobase + hydrocortisone + antihistamine ( chlorphenamine) + intrastite gel. What really helped was the hydrocortisone and bathing with oats. I also got my hands on Aldi’s ‘miracle cream’ which helped greatly with the dryness.

i think it’s trial and error, what worked for me may not work for others.

  • Hi,

My wife was diagnosed with a condition called Dermatomyositis almost a year after her BC diagnosis.  This started with skin irritations and was first thought to be dermatitis, but as the condition worsened it really got the doctors scratching their heads.  It was only after we paid to see a dermatologist privately that we got a diagnosis for my wife.

Dermatomyositis is a rare condition and not many doctors are familiar with it, but of relevance here this condition can be brought on by cancer!

It's worth mentioning to your doctor, if only to eliminate it from the skin irritations you are experiencing.
