Hello all
I had a DIEP flap reconstruction in November after my implant of 23 years had an intracapsular rupture. The implant was from DCIS with a small amount of invasive cancer in 1995 and a full mastectomy on my left side. Fairly long surgery in November and brutal recovery in the first week but rest of the last 3 months has been ok. Have stuck religiously to physio for the 3 months and added walking from day one and swimming from 6 weeks. Surgeon said all ok to go back to everything on 15 Feb (I go to the gym 3 times a week pre surgery) but very slowly. After a session in the gym last Sunday I felt a bit sore and had aches across my stomach and chest, pain was not usual gym soreness and went to the docs/A&E last Wednesday where they found 4 clots on my lungs. Now on heavy duty blood thinners and starting to go through what the causes might be - surgery (unlikely at 3 months?), some sort of blood disorder (my dad died of a DVT/PE after knee surgery 25 years ago), from some other hidden cause of cancer or something else or just random? I don’t look forward to a life on blood thinners, changing my lifestyle and am in a bad phase of thinking ‘ how unfair/why me’. I’m also freaking out at some of the info on the internet and yes I know I should not read it. Does anyone have a similar story with a positive outcome or advice on what to do next?
thanks
