Urgent referral for ovarian cysts “terrified”

Hi everyone

im really hoping someone can offer a bit of advice or if some one is going through the same thing or been through it what were your experiences? So I’ll start from the beginning a couple of weeks ago on 29.01 I was rushed into hospital with awful sever pains in my right lower abdomen. I had been having pains for the last couple of months but not sever just uncomfortable, bloating and a feeling of fullness all the time. When eating a meal I was only able to eat very little before feeling very full. I had key hole surgery and was told that I have bilateral ovarian cysts which are firm in nature. Multiloculated cyst on my right and serous fluid in pelvis. I spend three night in hospital on pain medication then was told to go home and rest. On the Monday had a phone call to say that iv now been put on as an urgent referral to gynaecology. Since coming home from the hospital iv still only been able to eat very little and iv lost 1 stone 2lbs I’m so terrified. Has anyone else had this experience?  Please help

  • Hi Rach. Welcome to the forum.

I should start out by saying that I'm not a doctor.  However, it would appear that you have the classic, unpleasant, symptoms of bilateral ovarian cysts. Ovarian cysts are pretty common, but to have them on both sides is far less common, but not unknown.

Ovarian cancer is rare, and I don't believe bilateral cysts are normally associated with it so I think the chance of a malignancy is low. However given your symptoms, you will probably require surgery fairly soon, in case the cysts rupture. This is potentially very serious.

Regarding the pain and inability to eat, this is something you can discuss with your GP.  Your GP should be able to prescribe something that make will you more comfortable, and will also be able to answer any questions you might have. I suggest you make an appointment as soon as possible.
