Heartbroken - mum given just a few weeks to live

Hello I’m absolutely heartbroken my mum has just been given only a few weeks to live. She was diagnosed with bladder cancer after going to the doctors with what she thought was a urine infection. My mum went back to the hospital to see the consultant at the end of December and they told her that they would remove her bladder and give her a stoma the bladder cancer was confined to the bladder and had not spread. Only the doctors missed missed a tumour in her bowel as the assumed it was a lymph node that was on her first ct scan. They couldn’t understand why she wasn’t getting any better after her op. Anyway to cut a long story short they missed the fact it had spread to her bowel, pelvis, bones, and intestines and called a meeting with the family to say that mum only had maybe a few weeks left and there was nothing else they could do and put her on palliative care.

  • I'm so sorry. I can't begin to imagine your pain.

  • So so sorry to hear this. I am going through the same thing.

We have been to 4 GP’s and asked for CT scans because my mum had memory changes and was repeating things a lot.

we asked for CT scans and they were refused because it was “flu”

we are now a week into diagnosis of lung cancer with a huge secondary brain metastasis and extremely advanced liver metastasis and been told there is unlikely any treatment and we could have 2 months.

You cant get your head around it can you, we feel like we’re in a bad dream, I don’t know how to begin to process it.

All we are doing is enjoying every minute with her, we are going for days out, visiting her favourite places, laughing, telling stories, just trying to make every day positive and special. It hurts so much more when they are so special to you doesn’t it .
