60 yr old with Supraclavicular Lymph Node

Hello everyone!

im new to this so hope my post is not too long-winded......

Some time ago I noticed a swelling on right side of neck just above collar bone, didn’t take much notice of it as I’m a bit overweight and thought it was possibly just a ‘fatty cyst’? About 5 weeks ago I discovered a slightly harder lump underneath the swelling (never noticed this before) and so made appointment to see my GP. (I would mention at this stage that I am taking meds for rheumatoid arthritis whic apparently can cause more chance of certain cancers developing)He promptly sent me for urgent ENT appointment who examined me and was then given appointment for ultrasound with aspiration to be done next week. I have been down the ‘Google’ route, just like most of the rest of us and obviously frightened myself silly with all the info out there! I have not smoked for over a decade and consider myself to have a fairly healthy diet, although a bit overweight due to lack of activity because of arthritis problems. I have had no infections or illnesses recently as far as I am aware.  The strangest thing is that this morning the node appears to have gone although the swelling still seems to be there? Does anyone know if this can happen? Should I still keep ultrasound appointment or would I be wasting their time? Any information would be greatly appreciated so thank you in advance.

  • Calm down Tamsgirl, you poor soul, you have got yourself in a state.  I would say "keep your appointment" just so all possibilities are covered.  You may have had a mild infection which would explain a swollen lymph node.  In response to your question about whether the swollen node could have gone down, well, it has gone down hasn't it?  You know the folly of googling symptoms; we say here that Dr Google should have been struck off years ago.    Sorry to not be of much help but as you say you have not been unwell just get the ultrasound done to reassure yourself.    Then you will have covered all bases.  Annie

  • Hi Annie, thank you for your wise words, very much appreciated and I shall keep the appointment of course.
