Hello-New to the Forum

Hello-new to the forum and hoping to connect with others to share experience and chat, I’ve just finished treatment-chemo and radio-and currently waiting impatiently for my first check up with my oncologist. Waiting is tough, but you all know that already!

  • I asked my cancer nurse and she said I will defo loose my hair, what a bonus if I can hang onto though...

so as your platelets were low did that mean you never had to have that last session?

Crikey....blood clot to add to the mix! Oh the joy....fingers crossed that little gremlin has gone! Xxx

  • Hi Marlyn

Yes, I never had that last session. I thought they might re schedule but they didn’t, and my consultant didn’t seem concerned..but I was!

My cancer is cervical so the chemo was a drug called cisplatin. I was told before treatment that I would keep my hair, and I did, so I was grateful for that.

Hoping the doctor this week will give me the ok to fly as we really need a holiday after all this and have already had to cancel one. We had one already booked for May which we didn’t cancel so everything crossed we can go! xx

  • Thanks Minska for your wishes.

Hope all goes well for you too and you are able to go on your well deserved and due holiday soon.

    Good luck

    Regards

    Radley

    Hi Minska,

I hope that all goes well with your appointment this week. I can imagine that a pulmonary emblism was all you needed alongside a cancer diagnosis.

Here's to that holiday in May.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Radley,

I hope that your histology results are good when they come back.

    Thinking of you.
    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine

It was a very scary time. I had to get an ambulance to get to hospital and I was very unwell. My partner actually took a photo of me in my hospital bed which she only showed me recently and I looked terrible! Once I was hooked up to antibiotics and fluids I was loads better and I was only in hospital overnight while they did lots of tests. The daily injections since then are a pain-literally-so I am hoping that now I have finished my cancer treatment I will be able to move on to tablets. I will need treatment for at least 6 months, maybe longer, although they did say my clot was small. However there was evidence it had done some damage to my heart too-never rains but it pours! xx

  • Thanks Jolamine for your wishes.

Have you got a date to see the Plastic Surgeon!

Hope all goes well for you too.

    Regards

    Radley

    Hi Minska,

By the sounds of things, you got off lightly if you only have some damage to your heart. I hope that this is minor, but you are lucky to have pulled through it. I agree that the injections are not pleasant, but you can do them. I have had to inject myself with these each time after surgery - and, I've had a lot of surgery.

Let's hope that you can move on to tablets soon.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Radley,

I was told that it would be in about 2-3 weeks time, but I asked if they could delay surgery until after my father-in-law's funeral, which is due to take place this Friday (8th).

Many thanks for your kind wishes.

    Regards,

    Jolamine xx
