Hi I’m new To all of this.....

I was started chemotherapy in December for breast cancer, almost half way through. 4 more sessions to go, not though I’m wishing my life away but April 11 th can’t come quick enough.  The plan then is surgery followed by radiotherapy an 12 months worth of Herceptin injections.

Each time I’ve have a session I’ve needed to go back in was admitted New Year’s Eve for sepsis.... thank goodness that’s all sorted now.

I feel that I am quite strong, but I still get the odd day when even the slightest thing gets on top of me, I’m hoping this will pass.

I’m looking for inspiration things to keep my mind active as I can’t work at the moment some days I just go stir crazy... I’m not used to  spending this much time sitting down.

Xx

    Hi Cal,

    Welcome to the forum.

It is always difficult to fill the day at home when you are used to being busy at work. How are you feeling on chemo? Do you have any pastimes or hobbies that you could partake in to help pass the time? What about some home baking, knitting, crocheting, etc?

My hubby used to take me out to theatres and cinemas a lot when I was at your stage, but to be honest, I felt so tired, that I often couldn't tell you what I watched, as I slept through a lot of performances, even with the ocasional dig in the ribs to try and wake me up. Hubby acheved his goal though, as this kept me away from consulting Dr Google, which is never a good idea.

I am glad to hear that you managed to overome your sepsis and that you are all sorted now .It doesn't sound as if you have had it easy, but don't give up hope, April will be here before you know it.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    hi Jolamine

Ive been filling my days crocheting cows and unicorns for family and friends, and baking for my mom and dad when I have the energy.

To be fair it generally the first 10 days that I have a lack of energy and feel a little yuk..  the last 10 days I feel that I could run a marathon.. not that I’m ever going to be able to that.. lol.

The only thing I consulted Dr Google for was to see if I could take m6 thyroid medication whilst having chemo... it freaked me out as there were quite a lot of reports that taking thyroxine can have an impact on HER + breast cancer in younger women.  So i stopped looking., Im due to see my Oncologist on 14th February, and that’s something that I will be asking..

I know that I’ve got to have whole course of chemo, but I honestly think that the squatter has gone... well I can’t feel him.  I cant believe how quickly it is going, before you know it with appointments in between the sessions, it’s round again.

thank you for your advice, I will let you know how things go...

    kind regards

    Cal xx

    Hi Cal,

I would certainly ask your consultant about not taking your Thyroxine. You could also ask your GP in the meantime. It can be helpful to draw up a list of questions for your consultant before each appointment, as it is all too easy to forget important things in the heat of the moment.

I hope that you are right and that your squatter has gone, but you are just as well to take your course of chemo just to make sure.

I hope that you don’t end up in hospital with your chemo sessions again and, can fully understand why you want to quit, but hang on in there. You are already over half way through it, so you can do this! Getting a diagnosis of cancer makes us all stronger in the long run. You never know, you could well be running those marathons after all your treatment is finished.

    Do please keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Marlyn

I’m currently on a cocktail of Pertuzumab, trastuzumab and Docetaxel I’ve had 3 sessions so far the last is this coming Thursday, then I’m due to have 3 sessions of FEC.

All I can say is try and stay positive, you really don’t know how much strength you have until you need to use it.   I named mine ‘Stewie the squatter’, so I can evict him as soon as possible.

i wish you well in your journey, let me know how your appointment goes with your oncologist on Wednesday. Xxx

I will let you know how I get on....and will keep me eyes out for your posts xxxx
