Grev

Hi all,

This is a very humbling forum and sad to find so many suffering in one way or another.

I am a 55 year old male, married for 30 years with two daughters. I had surgery in March to remove my Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) having been diagnosed with Leiomiosarcoma. The surgery appeared succesful despite numerous complications and three months in ITU.  The experience was frightening and very touch and go.  despite various nasty side effects, it was all worthwhile as I was able to walk my daughter down the aisle in August.

I am now ten months on from the surgery and unfortunately, my most recent CT scan and a further MRI has confirmed a recurrence of the sarcoma in a blood vessel at the back of my liver. The tumour is fast growing and inoperable and unlikely that either Radio or Chemo will have the desired effect in this instance.

SIRT has been suggested by a close relative and I am going to see what my Oncologist thinks. In the meantime, I would love to hear of anybody's experience with treatments for Leiomiosarcomas especially with SIRT in mind.

    HI Grev,

Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry that you have had to join us.

I am delighted to hear that, despite all the set backs, you managed to walk your daughter down the aisle and, I tust that you all had a truly memorable day.

I am however, so sorry to hear the results of your latest CT and MRI scans.

Most of us on this site are cancer pilgrims ourselves and not doctors. Can I suggest that you contact one of our nurses for a reply to your question? You can get them freephone on the number at the bottom of this page, 9.00-5.00, Mon-Fri. You can also post a question to them in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of the forum.

I have also done a quick search for you on the forum about SIRT. Most of the posts seem more to do with liver, bowel, colon cancers, but you might find them a useful read. If you go to the blue banner at the top of this page and click on the search button, then type SIRT into the search box and click, you will bring up previous posts on this topic.

I sincerely hope that this may help you further on this difficult cancer journey. If you feel able, please update us and, let us know how you get on. Remember that we are always here for you.

Thinking of you and praying for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • Hi Jolamine

I hope that all is well with you (not sure if that's the right thing to say on this forum...)

Thank you for your reply and kind wishes, especially for looking up the SIRT forum for me. I will get in touch with the nurses as suggested.

    Hi Grev,

I hope that the nurses can be of some help to you and, that you can gain omething from other people's comments about SIRT.

If you can update us on your journey with this, it would be very helpful for others searching the forum for advice, as yours sounds an unusual and challenging case.

    Fingers crossed for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine
