Dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer

My elderly dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread to liver and lungs. Can't have chemo has INR levels too high and have been for months. We have been told he had three to six months. Such a shock and feel overwhelmed. Dad is hardly eating and has lost so much weight. Feel lost and unsure what will happen next.

  • Hi Dreamer

So sorry to read about your Dad’s diagnosis. It’s no wonder you’re feeling overwhelmed after everything that’s happened.

I don’t know much about your Dad’s cancer type but I know what you’re going through (my Mum was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer)...I’m thinking you may well be going through the same feelings now that I experienced when my mum was diagnosed.

I know this is an awful time...I found it hard to keep my stress bucket from spilling over when I went through it and that led to all sorts of feelings and emotions...shock...anxiety...anger and an overwhelming sadness.

Just wanted to say hello and ask that you hang around this site...it is very good for support. If you feel like you need a safe and non-judgemental space to express your pain and let off some steam...come on here.

These days are precious for you, your family and Dad. I didn’t get the opportunity to say all the things I wanted to say to my Mum...which I regret (she was taken from us suddenly...only a few weeks after diagnosis). I hope that your Dad is comfortable and that you are all able to enjoy the time you have together xx

  • Hi, my dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer 4 months ago. We have only been to one oncology appointment due to him them being very ill with Kidney failure. He was in hospital for 7 weeks and now has dialysis every other day. The cancer was sort of put to the back with the hospital, saying the Kidney Disease has taken over.

So many emotions, he was never told a stage, just that is was untreatable due to his poor health. He was told 6 months to 2 years life expectancy when he asked.

Im sure he may be stage 3, as it was joined to a very large blood vessel

Any support or advice would be grateful x
