Hello

Hello, my name is Linda.  I've been recently diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythaemia and Polycythaemia Vera - conditions which fall into the category of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).  I'm on a mild chemotherapy treatment in tablet form (hydroxycarbamide) and a tablet to manage the production of uric acid (allopurinol tabs).  It's been a real emotional rollercoaster since my diagnosis.  I'm finding it hard to believe that "this is happening to me" - things seem in "high relief" and I'm feeling very much like I'm standing "outside of things" - looking on...  The scary thing really, is not knowing what to expect, I suppose.  Anyway, I'm doing my best in the meantime to carry on with my life as normal.  I wonder if anyone can advise if they've been on this treatment, and if so, how has it made you feel, physically.  I'm feeling head-achey most of the time and quite nauseious and tired.  Also, my consultant has prescribed this treatment for an initial six weeks.  Does anyone know if I should expect to be on treatment indefinitely?

Hope this makes sense - it's been a bit nerve-wrecking even posting this...!!  But thanks for listening :)

Linda
