Newly diagnosed with breast cancer and waiting for Scans

I’ve just been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer but waiting for scans to check if it has spread elsewhere, I don’t feel well and feel like it has spread and am really worried what the results will be. At the moment it’s a large lump and has spread to the lymph node so starting chemo first, even though I pretty much knew it it’s been a very tough week

I am positive about the treatment but just terrified this is going to change when they see if it has spread... the waiting is hurrendous... trying to have fun with my kids, work and keep busy but just walking around in a daze and trance...

  • Hi Olivia

I’m so sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis.  I have also recently been diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer and can totally relate with you on the horrendous waiting on test results. I’ve never experienced anxiety like it and my constant Googling hasn’t helped matters! I’ve two teenage daughters, 19 and 15 so with them being older have explained everything to them. It’s still very hard though keeping a brave face in front of them.

It’s looking like I’m going to be having a mastectomy and I also find out results on Friday. I’m hoping he will be telling me the next steps as I think I will feel a bit better for knowing what’s going to be happening and when.

    Good luck for Friday.

  • Hi Alison,

I just wanted to wish you all the best for Friday. I am glad that you and Olivia have met up. You will both find it helpful to have someone going through the same thing at the same time and should be a great support for one another.

As I have already told Olivia, I had a lumpectomy 8 years ago followed by a double mastectomy 7 years ago. I was terrified of what might go wrong with my last ops, but it was really straightforward.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

Great - I'm glad that you've got your CT scan so quickly.

    Keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much, hope you are okay xx I am so scared at the moment so many secondary symptoms and my mind is doing overtime and think I am going to drive myself crazy a blubbering mess at the moment xx

  •

    HI Kerry,

I know that it's hard not to, but try not to overthink things. Most breast cancers are treatable and outcomes are improving all the time.

I hope that all goes well tomorrow.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • MRI scan booked for next Tuesday then the results appointment, have to say I am absolutely petrified at the moment had a big meltdown yesterday and my head is swimming at the moment with so many scenarios flying around

  • Hi Kerry,

That's great. The sooner you have it, the sooner it'll be over. Try not to overthink things meanwhile. How did your CT scan go?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thanks for the reply, CT scan was okay only took about 5 minutes so really quick, not sure if that's a good or worrying sign, but have a bad back at the moment but heat pack is easing it so hopefully just stress and my head is really fuzzy at the minute but just putting that down to over thinking everything and lack of sleep.

    Hope you are well xx

    Hi Kerry,

The CT doesn't take long, but I'm glad to hear that you've had this done. It's good to hear that heat is helping your back. It's amazing what sresss can cause us to believe and lack of sleep doesn't help either. It shouldn't be that much longer now until you know what's what.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • MRI scan completed today, really anxious now and pain in my shoulders and tingling in my breasts at the moment and good old Dr Google I have the worse case scenario in my head again so stressed like mad, had a day in the office on Monday and because I was busy really weird no aches & pains so it is all in my imagination and stress related. But convinced myself it is so bad and a right mess today

  •

    Hi Kerry,

I am glad to hear that you had your MRI today. Did they tell you when you could expect to get your results? Try to find a pastime to keep yourself busy until your results come through. Just remember that it isn't bad until you're told that it's bad. Your experience at work just shows what stress can do where pain is concerned and, I guess that it's playing with your mind in the same way. Try to give 'Dr Google' a wide berth for the next couple of weeks.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine.
No they just said the results would be passed to my consultant, they have their MDT meetings every Tuesday and then the follow up meeting will be on a Wednesday, so hopefully next Wednesday or the week after. But all scans done and after being told a few days ago they were unable to book me in until the 27th May for my coil removal I have had that removed today, so just got to wait for the consultant appointment now, going back into the office until that appointment just to put some sort of normality into my days and hopefully reduce the worrying a little.

thank you so much for all your support and I hope you are well xxx

    thanks

    Hi Kerry,

I am glad to hear that you had your coil removed today - just shows what can be done and, so much better than waiting until 27th May! It is probably a good idea to get back to work and a sense of normality to help pass the waiting time until you get your results.

Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
