Waiting for biopsy results

Hi

just joined the group. So stressed as awaiting results. Is there anyone also having the same problems

  • Hi all,

I am also awaiting results! It will have been a 2 week wait as of Wednesday. My results are for endometrial cancer. Remaining optimistic but the wait is awful! Question, are results received via post, telephone or do they get in touch for an appointment in person? I guess i should have ask more questions during my biospy but i actually didn't know i was having one done at the time! My intial appointment was to discuss long term options to stop me bleeding!

  • Hi Johig, I'm the same, had a biopsy last week. Dr advised high chance of cervical cancer but just playing the waiting game now. My mind is all over the place thinking worse case to being positive and back and fore. the waiting is horrendous just really need to know for certain. Anxiety is off the chart

I hope you get your answers soon x

    Hi Madie,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you are in this position too. This is always a worrying time and the wait feels endless. It is always a good idea to ask when the results will be back at the time of any scan or investigative procedure. Results can be via any of the methods you mention, although most surgeons prefer to give them in person.

I do hope that they come through soon and that it will be good news. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Laura,

This is always a scary time, especially when you've been told that there is a high chance of cancer. If this turns out to be so, here's hoping that you've caught it early and that it is very treatable. Have you been told when the results will be back? I do hope that you hear soon and that it turns out to be better news than expected.

Try to keep busy in the meantime, as this helps the time to pass.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Yep I got a long wait for mine as going away for 3 weeks.I feel ur pain

  • Hi,

I truly feel for you Johig, I am also waiting for results (for breast cancer) and was also told it wouldn't take longer than two weeks ! After doing the biopsies (3 from my left breast) the doctor told me that "the mass is quite vast that she is concerned and would hurry the samples to the lab" this is all I can think about. She said that I will hear within the next two weeks. I phoned the hospital yesterday on several direct numbers I had been given, all said there was no one available. One said the breast CARE nurse would not be back until "Wednesday 20th of April" it was the 22nd yesterday!!! The answerphone for the Surgical Secretary said she would return my call today, I have just rang again and got the same message ! I felt more stressed and anxious then I had felt before calling!
I realise that there must be many, many other people waiting for results but that doesn't make me feel any better. My whole body feels like it's shaking inside. One minute I'm thinking I haven't heard anything because my results are good, then I think its because it's gone too far so there's nothing they can do for me.

Only myself and my husband know about this, I don't want to worry my family at this stage, I am grateful that I came across this site. I feel for you all. We must keep positive.

    Hi Annamatilda,

A very warm welcome to our forum. The best number to phone for this information is your consultant's secretary - the number should be on any letters you've received.  Ask if the biopsies are back and if not, how much longer they are likely to be? It sounds as if the breast care nurses just haven't updated their message since they returned from their Easter holiday. It is always worth leaving a message if you can, as the nurse will usually return your call fairly soon.

Even when your results are back they have to be discussed at the next MDT (multi-disciplinary team) meeting. These are usually held weekly to discuss the various results and the best way forward. When your consultant gives you your results she will then be able to discuss any surgery or treatment with you.
This is always a worrying time and I hope that you hear something soon. If it's of any consolation, breast cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer nowadays. I was in your position 12 years ago. I had a lumpectomy, followed by a bilateral mastectomy the following year, for another bout. I now lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Please keep in contact and let us know when you get your results. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolemine, thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me, it has helped me.

At the beginning of last week when I rang the hospital I was told the my case would be discussed at the weekly meeting on Thursday and so I should get a call either later that day or the following day, but I've heard nothing. I did ring the Secretary on the direct number I was given but apparently she was not in work.
I am hoping and praying that I get something in the post tomorrow or a phone call. I will be 70 in November I have been blessed with exceptionally good health, so I keep telling myself this is another positive. I only wish that I had gone to the doctor sooner, I have felt this sort of "wedge" in my breast for some time.

Take care and thank you again

    HI Annamatilda,

The chances are that they are running a little behind because of the Easter holiday. Even after your case is discussed, they need to find you an appointment slot with your consultant . If they have decided to carry out surgery, they may also need to check that there is a surgical slot and that they will have all of the staff on duty that they will need to carry out the procedure. If the secretary is on holiday this week, that may hold things up a little too. I expect that you should hear early next week.

It is a positive that you have good health, so if any treatment is needed, you are fit enough to cope with it. There is no point in castigating yourself for not seeing to this sooner. It is scary getting through this - the not knowing is the worst. Hopefully, you should hear soon.

    Please keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
