Waiting for biopsy results

Hi

just joined the group. So stressed as awaiting results. Is there anyone also having the same problems

  • Thank you for sharing. I also am finding it hard to concentrate. Especially since the pandemic is very important, I tend to drift off with my worries alone.

    best of luck

  • Hi Elly,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry that you are finding it hard to concentrate and that you tend to try and deal with everything alone. We all need someone to support us through this.
Can I ask where you are in your cancer journey?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

I had a biopsy on the 2nd of July and have not received my results to date.  I have phoned my doctor a number of times and have been told that they are too busy to get them.  I phoned the hospital and left an answerphone message, no response.

I was on a two week response.  What should I do?  Who is responsible for ensuring I receive my results?

    HI Gil,

Welcome to our forum. Were you told that your results would be back within 2 weeks? Some results can take longer than others but 8 weeks does seem a long time to wait. Why not phone your consultant's secretary and see if she can shed any light on what is happening?

    Here's hoping for good news.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi I had a conocpsy done a nearly 2 weeks ago and they found 1 polyps it messsured only 5mm so after it was finished the procedure. I said is that bad he said no it looks ok. Doesnt look cancerous but they are going to send it off ...now a while later I revived A letter and bascially they will phone My Number on the 10th of this month at 3pm it also says make sure your in a sutitabale place to take the phone call.....is that bad news because I'm absolutely scared to heck surely I thought if was bad news they would ask me to come in and discuss the result I honestly don't no wots happening please get bk to me asap

    Hi Bear,

A very warm welcome to our forum. Try not to worry about your phone call. You will probably have some questions of a private nature to ask and, you wouldn't want to be at work in the middle of a busy office. It is important that you can ask whatever you want without embarassment atthe time, hence the need for being in a suitable place.

It is impossible to prediict the outcome of your biopsy. Most consultants prefer to give bad news face to face, but in these days of Covid, this is not always possible. I know that the waiting is torture but it is all part of the procedure. Try to find something to keep you occupied until 10th, as this will help the time to pass.

I sincerely hope that it turns out to be good news. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi am been waiting for my results from biopsy for Barrett's it's been 18 days now anyone else waited this long.

  •

    Hi Moneyron,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Did they tell you at the time of your biopsy how long it would take to get your results back? It is always a good idea to ask this after any tests. I an a breast cancer lady , so am unfamiliar with the usual return times for Barrett's. Why not phone and ask whether or not they are back yet? If not, ask when you are likely to get them.

This is always a worrying time when we are waiting for results and the longer we have to wait, the harder it gets. Some results in some parts of the country are taking a little longer than normal due to Covid.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Here's hoping for good news.

  • Yes, i am in exactly the same position and really angry now about it.  The doctor told me 2 weeks and its now 4 weeks, why on earth would you tell someone 2 week when they knew it would be longer.  I phoned her secretary and she said they were running behind due to staff shortages but its the same doctor that took the biopsy that reviews the results so she must have known surely that it was taking longer.

  •

    Hi Ali,

Perhaps your doctor was right at the time that she gave you this information? She couldn't know of or plan for staff shortages. Unfortunately, unexpected delays can be caused by unexpected circumstances. In such circumstances, we just have to be patient.

I sincerely hope that you get good news when it does come through. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
