Hello

Just joined this forum :) Diagnosed with breast cancer and was told today would need chemo, operation & radiotherapy. Trying to learn a bit more before I step into the unknown x

  • Welcome aboard! I’ve had two out of the three treatments you're going to have. There’s quite a big bunch of breast buddies as [@Chriss]‍ puts it, some of us have completed the treatment and there are new people coming on all the time, [@Warriorqueen]‍ had her op yesterday and [@Cornishpastie]‍ has hers very soon.

Feel free to get in touch, we talk about a lot of stuff, life isn’t just about cancer even though there are times when it feels like that.

  • Hiya Am about to have my OP this coming Friday followed by radiotherapy and hormone therapy. Like Riley says there are quite a few of us. Feel free to ask anything. We are a lively bunch and I have to say that the ladies who have lived with this for a while, like Riley, have helped us keep our sanity. Have you been told what type and stage of bc you have?
  • Just wanted to say hi and Welcome ... i know it feels really scary right now ... i think its the hardest part of the hole thing ... just stepping into the unknown ... handing over conrol ... feeling like your being swept along on a wave and not know how your gonna be ...

Just know, we have all started there ... and one by one, taken every step, just one at a time ... try to keep in the day, and not look at all the "what ifs" coz when you look at everything together it's overwhelming... stay with one thing at a time ...

Like Rilley said, we've all come together to kick cancers bum, right down this journey we find ourselfs on ... cancer wants you to roll over and give in... it wants you to panic and stay down, it has no compassion..  but if we stick together on this rollercoaster ride ... we can help each other on bad days, where we want to scream at the situation .. we can get through the ops and treatment, holding your hand ... and a high 5 on good days ... and that Cornish pastie, who's waiting like you, has put on her boxing gloves and she's ready to get in the ring to knock cancers block off ...

So sending a vertual hug ... you can do this ... Chrissie xx

  • Hi Cornish pastie! I'm a Cornish one too :) thanks for your lovely message. Got told yest it's a grade 3 cancer and I'm at stage 1.7 on the Richter scale! I found out what the lump was 2 weeks ago...the day we completed on our house & was moving to wales! Bit of a bomb shell, so I'm travelling up and down at the mo till chemo sorted out xx
  • Hi there and welcome to the forum! I've just had a lump and some nodes removed yesterday. Feeling pretty good - even doing some dance lessons this week with boob well strapped up lol. Going to have 15 shots of radiotherapy plus hormone treatment after. If you need to know anything just ask. Im a nurse as well so probably know too much for my own sake! It's s s small world as I've just moved to Wales near Cardiff, who knows we may become neighbours lol xxxx

  • We've just stopped off at the Bridgend Factory outlet! Lol On way back to Cardigan :) back down to Cornwall for an ovary scan (just in case!) in 2 weeks x
  • I'm from Redruth originally now living in london.

Richter scale is right lol....shakes your foundations!

Can they transfer your care to a Welsh hospital....all that travel might get a bit tough on you x

  • Cant believe your dancing already... next thing you'll be running the marathon lol!!!!

I didn't know you're a nurse....im a social worker.....done mega research on this lol since being diagnosed. Consultant offered me a job lol!!!

  • I've just moved from Redruth! Small world :) yes I'm transferring up to wales but thought the mermaid centre at treliske had me in the system on the day our house completed so I'm going to make sure I get the chemo up in wales somewhere xx

  • Omg small world! Well I lived in Fore street. We lived the flat above the shoe shop that was Oliver's when I lived there.....opposite the clocktower. I spent many a day as a child in the cattle market. I went to Trewergie school, and my dad worked in Dowty's. There was the town homeless man called kitchy george. As you can tell it was some time ago and I know things have changed massively as I came down about 5 years ago. I have a sister who lives in st austell and niece in madron.  I also have a load of cousins but cant remember all the town's and villages they live in other than a couple that live in stithians. What I miss most is hogs pudding! Pasties are no problem as both me and my brother can make a nice one lol. I am very proud of my Kernow roots lol!
