Vaginal cancer

Recently diagnosed, waiting for planning ct scan so can move ahead with chemo/radiotherapy treatment. Saw the oncologist and he told us what the treatment plan would be plus the small print of issues that could be caused by what will hopefully save my life, such a long scary list. I am quite independent and find it difficult to ask for help but know having good friends and my family supporting me is going to be important so here I am just to reach out, for some reassurance at some points and advice as I go through this.have been told it is vaginal (not the easiest to say when anybody asks haha) but the tumour actually extends from the lip of the cervix and in to the vsginal wall, they won’t know until further down the line whether it started in the cervix or vagina. He let me see the mri scan and pointed out the tumour, was surprised so big (well in my eyes it was bigger than I thought would be). It’s only been 3 weeks since I found out and boy does it seem forever!

  • I noticed you haven't had a reply yet Feefee so I just wanted to stop by and give you a warm welcome to the forum :)

I'm sorry to see you've recently been diagnosed with vaginal cancer but glad that treatment is available to you.

It's great you have a good support group around you on this journey but I'm glad you're reaching out to us here on the forum as well. I've had a quick look through the forum and found a few members - [@JaneR]‍, [@Clh48]‍ that have had a similar diagnosis as well as [@Ian-j-c]‍ who's mum was diagnosed with vaginal cancer - that you may like to connect with and now that I've tagged them in this post they will hopefully pop by when they can to say hello and share their experiences with you.

Chat to us as much as you like Feefee and remember we will be here to support you every step of the way.

    Kind regards,

  • Just saying hello, Feefee.  This being a bank holiday weekend quite a few of people are away doing things with family and friends so I thought I would welcome you even though I have no similar experience to share.  You will find it easy to talk about everything in detail here as people will always discuss the detail when necessary as that is the best way of helping each other.  Women talk about their partners medical problems and vice versa.  So don't hesitate to ask if you are unsure about anything.  Annie

  • I was wondering are you still on the site as I would like a chat as I have been diagnosed and would like some advise

  • Hello. Are you still on here? Would appreciate a chat to see how you are coping/how the treatment went? I have been recently diagnosed and would love some advise

  • Bel here how are you doing. I had stage 2 and had treatment in June / July last year. Any questions I can help with please ask

The treatment I had was 5 week chemo 5 weeks radiation. And the 4 sessions of internal radiation which I was stayed in the hospital

have ups and downs but doing well.

  • Hi Bel...thanks so much for your reply! And I hope you are having a great Christmas Day!

I'm trying to stay positive and not stress about it and hoping that it's at stage 1 from what they are saying/can see now without any further tests but then I have moments when it feels like it has spread everywhere and it's too late to treat! Did you have any syphtoms when you were diagnosed? How did they find it? Mine just got picked up on the smear test but annoyingly I also had some abnormal cells on my cervix so they only discovered the area under my cervix when they treated the area on my cervix and the results still came back as 'severe changes'
I'm glad to hear your treatment went well and I hope you never have to go through this again! X

  • Happy Christmas to you too.

firstly worrying is the normal and you will think the worse, to be honest I still worry now if I feel anyway unwell, and it is way to say don't worry but you will, you have to learn ways to keep your mind from wandering back to the cancer all the time. You might find if funny but I have taken up adult colouring and jigsaws. It helps me

on symptoms at the time I did not think I had any but when I looked back their was a little blood when there should not have been and I had lost a little weight.

during the proces I found two periods more difficult to deal with. The time when I first found out and was going thur a number of tests to

find out what stage and what treatment was require and the four weeks after the treatment waiting to see if it worked

hope this helps any questions let me know

    try and keep positive
