Hi

I’m a newbie to the forum.  I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in August last year.  Initially I had my surgery cancelled as the anaesthetist said my heart wasn’t strong enough to withstand surgery, but my cardiologist said I was well enough so I eventually had the surgery five weeks later.  I have just finished my chemo yesterday and will be having a CT scan next month.  I was lucky with my chemo as I wasn’t really ill with it, although I have neuropathy in my hands and feet, I get pain in my legs for a few days, and lost my sense of taste, although sometimes it comes back briefly, which makes me hope I’ll get it back.

‘My hair fell out two weeks after my first chemo, and after two or three weeks I stopped wearing the wig.  I was a bit embarrassed at first but now everyone’s used to it and doesn’t comment. I don’t have to shave my legs or under my arms, and I definitely don’t need a Brazilian wax (not that I ever had one before).

  • Hi Kate and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry you were diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year but I'm really glad to see that your cardiologist said you were fit enough for surgery and that you didn't suffer from any major side effects from the chemo.

Our lovely [@Jolamine]‍ has to contend with neuropathy  as well so I've just tagged her in this post in the hope she'll pop by when she can to share some with tips with you on how to manage it. We have some information about neuropathy on our website if you'd like to read up on it and some tips on how to manage taste changes which may come in handy at this time too.

Hopefully some of our other members who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer will be along soon to welcome you to the forum but do feel free to have a look around using the 'search forum' option above.

I wish you all the best with your recovery and hope that the CT scan brings good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
