Found out yesterday

Got the call from a male doctor who was standing in for my regular family doctor who is on vacation.  Funny thing is that the female dr. that did my biopsy said that she would call me with the results since my family dr. is on vacation.....and you have to have a primary care dr. so I used my family dr. to have the results sent to.....Male dr. did not have the right compassion to deliver this news to a female.  It was very strange and unsympathetic.

Its breast cancer.........there I said it or rather wrote it.  Still meditating on this news......haven't told anybody.  Just you guys!

  • Hi,

How ridiculous is that sorry not the way you want to be treated, welcome on journey where you will receive all the help and care and beat it.

  • Hi

I'm sorry you've started the crazy journey in that fashion and I understand the saying it out loud makes it real real.

Give them some feedback as they seem lacking in communication and empathy skills

    Hi Dclayburn,

A very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am so sorry to hear about how you have been told about your diagnosis. It sounds as if the doctor who delivered the news had little experience of breaking this type of news. Don’t be afraid to let your consultant know this when he returns from vacation. This is not to complain, but to ensure that junior doctors get better training into how to impart this news to patients, in the best possible way, making it easier for patients to come to terms with it.

Have you been told what type or stage your cancer is yet, or have you got another appointment to see your consultant? This is a scary time, full of ‘what ifs’, but you will get through it  and begin to feel more positive as you come to grips with it all and start to fight back.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on from here. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
