Suspected carcinoma removal advised routine not urgent

Hi, I hope it’s ok to ask for some advice.

I’d been referred to the hospital for a dodgy looking mark behind my ear that never heals and bleeds from time to time. It’s been there well over a year. The hospital doctor mentioned it could well be Basal Cell Carcinoma.... or it could just be a wart. I’ve been advised to have it cut out.

Today i I rang the hospital in hope of some idea as to when the removal might take place.  I’ve been told I’m on the routine list and that the list is very long so no idea when I’ll be seen.

Does this seem normal considering the doctor  mentioned it could be basal cell?

I dont want to be over dramatic but also I’m worried this ‘thing’ should be removed sooner rather than later.

any advice gratefully received

  • Hi Natalie. Welcome to the forum.

    I am not a doctor.

A Basal cell carcinoma is a very lazy cancer. It almost never spreads and rarely needs urgent treatment.

You say that this was diagnosed by a hospital doctor. I would recommend visiting your GP and getting his or her opinion. Your GP might be able to refer you to a hospital with a shorter waiting list.
