Week after mastectomy

Hi I had my mastectomy done a week ago tomorrow.everthing went well as well can be but ATM felling like camping, tidiness and pulling around the area.Is that kind of normal as body is healing as the numbness is going down ?anybody else experience similar felling?

  • Hi Kat

i had my mastectomy last July and finished my chemo 8 weeks ago.

my wound felt a bit tight and was quite bruised initially but I only took paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly for about a week then only when I needed them. I hate taking pills.

i only got pain if I overstretched my arm in bed or tried to lift something. I still have complete numbness 10 months post surgery and I think that will be permanent

ot was handy in the recovery period as I developed a seroma which needed draining on 4 occasions and I didn't feel a thing!!! Bonus!!

i have just started physio as my scar is very tight despite me doing exercises and I'm told that's quite common

hope your healing goes well, give yourself time and don't do too much. One useful thing for me was a small pillow / cushion about 6x8 inches with minimal stuffing which I used a lot under my arm when sitting and to protect the wound from the seatbelt when in the car

    take care
