My name is Angie. On the 26th January I attended my normal mammogram check. On the 14th February I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I took the decision to have a mastectomy rather than a lumpectomy. I am 60 years of age what do I need them for. Well on the 6th March I had the operation. I had trouble post op with the drains in that they kept de-vaccing. In the end the drain was removed even though I was still carrying seroma. Now three weeks post op i can honestly say I made the right decision even though at the moment I am suffering because i have an infection, I am still very sore and fed up with the fluid retention but hey ho. I have been given the ll clear and am on tablets for the next 5 years but I class myself as one of the lucky ones. I would urge anyone to attend routine scans when they are offered. Good luck to anyone else going through the same.
