Hi! My story is on my profile,

Dads first syringe driver went up Monday night and today a second one has been done

  • Hi Sam,

I've just read your profile and I'm shocked that your Dad's CT scan in November led to him being told he was cancer free, only to be told after an MRI scan only a few weeks later that he is in late Stage 4. That he must have been gutted to be told the news.

Has his oncologist given any explanation about this?

    Best wishes
    Dave

  • He Dave After the last kidney was removed the surgeon left a ureteric stump, which was attached to the remaining but of the bladder, then every six months it was deceived that the surgeon would do a camera to check dad was cancer free, as you have got to be free for 5 years before applying for a transplant. So when the cancer returned that's when the bcg bladder washes were done, then every 6 months after a camera was inserted just to make sure, anyway the last ct scan was performed in October, and his surgeon said that he noticed fluid around the stump, so he wanted another camera inside just to check, Then a different doctor did it and said there was nothing there, so the surgeon wrote a letter to dad saying basically yeyyy all clear, then a few days later we received a copy of a different letter from the urologist to the renal doctor on his dialysis ward, saying he was delighted that on doing the last camera dad was cancer free, yes we still have the copy's. Think that letter was dated 9th November! Then the full body MRI was 16th Jan, we were told tuesdat 17th Jan, but were told a week ago that dad was stage 4 and had been for quite some time. We were told we would see the acute oncologist, we haven't yet, but.... we have see one registra who told us that they would not of been able to see the cancer as it was on the outside, not were the camera was, then the other day another urologist consultant left his clinic and came to find us, whilst we were grabbing a coffee as dad was on dialysis we said we would go down to see this man in clinic and when we arrived he was waiting in the corridor for us! He told us the same thing, and no other explanation But over the last week one doctor did say that my dad has slipped through the net!

But it doesn't help me I'm loosing my hero, my dad x

  • It sounds like they were looking in the wrong place, maybe too focussed on the original site which is why he slipped through the net.

    Best wishes

    Dave
