As someone who has been a member of this friendly forum of 4 1/2 years, I can tell you it does help to talk to others who have been diagnosed with cancer. I helps us not feel so alone for a start, and it also helps to know we are not the only one going the the range of emotions and problems that cancer brings with it.

Hi I am about to start fec-t treatment myself on Wednesday. I am really worried about it all, don't know what to expect,can you help?

I am very well thanks for asking. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer nearly seven years ago But thanks to my wife making me go to the docs, I have made a very good recovery. It has changed me but for the better for I have a differnt outlook of life and am more appreciative of the simple little things in life these days. I found this site while looking for info about prostate cancer and joined up straight away.

It must be diificult for you with a young child as regards what to tell him. Children are very intuitive and pick up on thing very quickly dont they. I have three grandchildren and I left to my son and daughter in law what to tell them. They were told I wasnt well and that I was having treatment at the local hospital. I got a lot of comfort from them and it mademe more determined to get better for I wanted to see them grow up.

I coped so well with FEC then the change has been he'll.  I felt like I have flu for 10 days and just hated it. I had Picc line flush last Wednesday and nurse said she thinks if they started on this drug people would give up. that being said if it feels like he'll it must be working. I look at it nit in cycles now but chemo 5 next week and all done in 3.5 weeks!!! 

It is nice to hear you gone so long now. It is hard with a little one. to be fair I didn't expect to have to deal with this quite this young. he is amazing and counting down my chemo days. he was a little upset when I talked about operation with him ( I'm having double masectomy). It will he xmas week too so another Xmas not that great for him ( he had chicken pox last xmas)!!! promised him a big holiday in spring!!!!

How horrible for you to be going through this amd with a 6 year old to look after too, I can't imagine how hard that is.

I am also going through FEC-T, had mastectomy in July for a recurrence of breast cancer and started my FEC journey on Oct 5th. Had an admission with neutropenic sepsis last week which they dealt with very quickly and effectively and am having a PICC next Tuesday the day before cycle 2 of 8.

I was told the last 4 cycles would be quite hard as they change the drugs but I resolve to cross that bridge when I reach it.

I find a positive mental attitude and humour work for me, in fact whilst I was in hospital last week I found it hilarious that my toilet door had a sign that said 'This is the tiolet' and a picture of a loo just in case!! Silly I know but it amused me for hours!!

I am keeping a journal of my cancer from diagnosis and treatment 2 years ago throuh my current situation and beyond.

My 3 children are grown, I'm 59, so I am also writing a book for them, all the things I wish I had told them when they were little, things about my life before kids and about my parents and grandparents.

I have my best thoughts in the night and as my sleep is disturbed I keep a notebook by the bed to jot my thouhts down.

It sounds like your chemo will soon be over and you can start to restart your life and become strong again.
