Not sure how to cope with my family?

I have a myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN), Essential Thrombocythemia (ET) caused by a mutation of Exon 10, chromosome of the Myeloproliferative Leukemia Protein (MLP), Proto-oncogene, Thrombopoietin Receptor. I have told no cure buy chemotherapy tablets for life may keep me going. Feeling a bit scared I'm 62. Any tips on how to carry on and stay positive? Also how do you deal with family who just get upset and are no help? :|

  • Hi St-Raphael

You seem like a very strong positive person (from your post) Everyone has a different way of coping mine was to look at the positives' although I did swing between planning my funeral to planning a holiday. I know this sounds crazy but I found planning my will and funeral quite therapeutic, not the big things but the little ones like which friends I would leave mementos to, in my case handbags and jewellery. Enjoy the little things and see the beauty

As to family if it's spouse and children talk to them tell them you need their support to stay positive. They are also going through fears and probably don't know how to cope so let them know how you feel. Cry together laugh together make memories together. I found talking was the best thing rather than avoiding it. Don't shut them out you have the cancer and they need to take the lead from you on how you want to deal with it.
