High grade dyskaryosis?

Hello,

i had had a letter saying I have abnormal cells, followed with a letter saying that it is high grade dyskaryosis... Colposcopy a week today and also biopsy? I'm absolutely bricking it! I should have had my first smear 4 years ago so really panicking that it's been like this a while (whilst also kicking myself!)

has anyone else been through the same? X

  • Oh god then I can understand how scared you must be too. But you've always had regular smears so that is good. I did too and although I was shocked, I didn't have any other symptoms. I'm menopausal but no weird bleeding or anything so I tried to keep positive too. I did feel horrible in that I am HPV positive and my mum shamed me for it (I recently started a new relationship and she said I should have used condoms..) but hey. I'm hoping for a clear result but knowing my luck it will be the same with more abnormal cells. I am unsure how many times you can have Lletz so I will ask that if I have to have it done again.

I'm keeping everything crossed for you. It's likely to be just a small procedure and then back to normal but ask as much as you can. I do find they are very helpful. I won't say don't worry as that is impossible! Just be glad you're being looked after. And good luck with more babies! It's lovely to be a mum. Xx

  • Hi

I was same like you , was so scared when I got my smear test result saying high grade.

I went for my colcoscopy appointment and had LLETZ procedure done where they burn away the abnormal cells. Its a small procedure , no need to worry much . I got my report few weeks later saying it wasn’t cancerous cell . I was so relieved upon hearing it .

They did ask me to get smear test again after 6 months to check if all the abnormal cells were taken care of . But I am in Hongkong now and due to CoVid19 the cervical screening is suspended here so haven’t gone for the screening again. For now I’m okay and just waiting to get smear test done soon .

Hope everything turns out fine with you too . Stay strong and positive

  • HI, if someone can help me please , I ve got a letter with abnormal smear test and high grade . I ve got my colcoscopy Saturday 3rd October.  I am so scared I've got a small baby 10 months   I'm not optimistic about my results.  It is possible to find cancer???

  • Hi, I am so sorry you received that letter. I wish they wouldn't write it like that as it does truly scare the life out of you! I got one the same in January - I am 52 - and I was expecting it to be fine and to be recalled every 5 years. So I was shocked and went into a meltdown!

Anyway, I had a colposcopy and a lletz procedure. Both absolutely fine, just a tad uncomfortable having the lletz. I'm a mass panicker so I asked the consultant and he simply said that it's just pre cancerous changes and (in my case because I'm older) unlikely to change back. So they simply remove them. I asked him when he was examining me if it was anything sinister and he said no. I did call the secretary a week later and my results were in and were clear. A recall in June came back HPV negative. They say the process and the treatment kickstart antibodies which often get rid of the HPV. So make sure you ask for some reassurance and also pester to get results quicker for peace of mind. Sure you will be fine, but I totally know how you feel. I was a freaked out state and actually so is everyone on this site. Covid doesn't help. Try not to worry. Have you got your appointment booked?

    Keeping everything crossed for you.

    Zelda xx

  • HI, thank you for your reply. I've got booked for tomorrow colposcopy I hope will be everything fine. I try to not think about it. I am happy is all clear for you .

I will come back with the news.

  • Hi everyone, I've read most of the comments on this post.. 14th oct 2020 I got a letter saying ive got high grade dyskaryosis.. and just like all u lovely lot im now bricking it... do I phone the drs to ask for an appointment for the colposcopyas ive been told I need one? Or do they ring u? I've got 3 children (ones has disabilities) I'm sure its nothing and ill be fine but im also so so worried.. I have panic attacks about dieing so this is absolutely no good for my mental heath.. im not worried about procedure its the results im worried about, and due to covid is there gonna be a massive back log.. theres one question that keeps going round in my head.... how long have I had this? Did it start just after my last test... that means its been growing for 5 years and now it could be cancerous.. did it start 2 weeks before my test this year? Ive had aches and pains for a while now.. I put it down to having a cyst on my right ovary.. now I'm thinking maybe not.. I hate waiting and not knowing.. this is waiting game is gonna do me in.. thanks for listening

  • Hi All, i have recieved the same results as everyone here.. high grade CIN 3... never had an issue before and now waiting for my colposcopy next week and absolutely terrified! Im a massive overthinker and clearly have already diagnosed myself and planning for the worst (Dramtic i know but my head wont stop turning over!)

Im worried about the results, not the procedure but also worried about how long the results will be and if they can shed any light at the colposcopy appointment to put me at ease! Reading this has made me feel slightly better that so many have had the same initial results and have gone on to not be cancerous so thank you so much for sharing. Im 31 and no children and also scared incase it stops me having children :-(  Good luck to those still waiting for results x

  • Hi, just writing in response to your post. It's easy for me to write this as my last smear showed my HPV had gone and I had a successful lletz procedure in January. I do have a friend who has had ongoing treatment for 5 years. She can't shift the HPV but they just keep an eye on her. She has two children and both have been born fine, no problem. If they do a lletz procedure, they will bear in mind you may want children and will give you treatment accordingly. I can say don't worry but I did completely freak out so I do know how you feel. The important thing is you are being treated and hopefully they will get you your results quickly. I pestered and got mine early. I also spoke to the consultant and asked did anything look dodgy. He said no but at this stage they are simply removing the cells before they can become sinister. It does take a lot of years to become cancer. And at your age, there is a good chance your cells will revert back. Mine less so because I am 52. Ask and ring and pester is what I suggest. They really are great and helped me no end. They could see I was an absolute mess. Get as much information as you can because it will calm you down once you know more.

Let me know how you get on. Be thinking about you. It sucks I know and I do feel for you. Xx

  • Thank you for your kind reply and reassurance, from what i have read i know as much as its high grade it will more than likely be fine and i can resume normal life after treatment. I just cant shake this bad feeling and its just completely consuming me at the moment! Roll on colposcopy day!! I'm making a list of questions so that i dont forget anything on the day, my appointment is tuesday so will update!

    Thanks,

    Leanne x
