High grade dyskaryosis?

Hello,

i had had a letter saying I have abnormal cells, followed with a letter saying that it is high grade dyskaryosis... Colposcopy a week today and also biopsy? I'm absolutely bricking it! I should have had my first smear 4 years ago so really panicking that it's been like this a while (whilst also kicking myself!)

has anyone else been through the same? X

  • Hey, just letting you know I had 3 punch biopsy’s done yesterday.  Now could take up to 4 weeks to know if I’m in the clear or need any type of treatment.

I will say the hospital I went to the three nurses in the room was amazing n made me feel at ease even had a little giggle.  X

  • Thank you for the update  :) . Let’s hope there’s nothing to worry about !! I am a little less worried now . Just waiting for my colposcopy appointment :|

  • How did everyone get on please? Ive never posted on a forum before so I might be doing all this wrong.. I recieved my smear results today and it said i have high grade servere dyskaryosis and I'm absolutely petrified I phoned the hospital straight away and got an appointment for tomorrow morning,I'm not worried about that, it's the result.I have a 6 year old and a 3 month old and now I'm worrying all about them also ive taken to google and it's made me worse,I spoke to my gp on the phone today but she really didnt put me at ease if anything made me worse aswell

  • Hello, Im 28 an had my second smear, results come back high grade, I went to my next appointment to have the cells removed to be informed cause I haven't birthed a child, (2c-sections ) that my cervix could heal completely up an resulting not having any more kids.  So I left it for 6 months an went on to have another smear an biopsy.  An both results have come back clear this week.
to say I'm confused is an understatements

  • Try not to worry I had to go in and have the cells all burnt away and when I went back for my next smear 6 months later its was all clear. Good luck xx

  • Hi, well I had the same smear result as you in Jan this year. I got a cancellation the next day for a lletz procedure that went fine. I pestered and got my results after 9 days which showed all the cells gone, clear margins and to go for a repeat smear in 6 months.

I felt the same as you, totally dumbfounded by the original smear result and terrified I would have cancer, so I do understand how you feel. I also Googled and made myself worse. I am worried about my next smear which is due in June/July but if it shows the cells have returned then this time I will be less panicked as I know what to expect.

Most likely, everything will be absolutely fine. But I do understand. At my colposcopy appointment, I did ask if there was any sign of cancer and they said no. It didn't stop me worrying until I got my final results but it did calm me down so make sure you ask. I have only praise for the NHS where I went. They were truly fantastic.

Let me know how you get on.

  • Hi,thanks for replying I went to my appointment today the women doing my colposcopy said I had some grade 2 and 3 cells she couldnt see anything worrying but have to wait for my results back to be 100% she did the loop procedure not quite sure what it's called ‍♀️ I have calmed down abit she said if she was in any doubt she wouldnt of done the procedure today...I'm obviously panicking about the result now it just keeps running threw my head the grade 3s have started changing, specailly with my aunties coming back as they have 11 years ago...I havnt slept all night or eaten since yesterday morning with worry

  • Hi,

just wondered how you got on. I have a 5 month baby and received my letter today telling me I have severe/high grade dyskaryosis. Colposcopy is in just over a week.
I'm an 'old' mum at 41 but desperately want to try and get pregnant soon. I'm terrified that this will mean I can't get pregnant or that it will delay things and push it back until I'm too old to conceive.

and that's before I think about the worst case scenario.  I'm a worrier!

have you had your treatment at all? Hope you are ok.

  • Hi, it is a really scary time I can't lie. But I do understand and I think every woman in this position is terrified. I had my test in January and I had a colposcopy and Lletz procedure just after. I had both breasts removed when I was 34 (I'm 52 now) so the thought of problems there was devastating. What I did was speak to the colposcopy team and the consultant. They reassured me it wasn't cancer, it was just precautionary. I also kept ringing until I got my results. The results showed it had all been taken and I had clear margins. I am now waiting for my next smear this month and I  must admit I am already worried. All I can say is ask as much as you can and ring the colposcopy team too. I don't think it is supposed to stop you from being able to conceive (if you have Lletz) but you may go into labour slightly earlier. Think that is all. But mention it to them. It is really awful and very scary, but glad it isn't long to wait. Let me know how you get on. Have you had regular smears in the past? And no symptoms of anything sinister? Just know you are not alone and lots of women go through this just fine. But we do all worry massively so I'll keep everything crossed for you.

    Much love xxx

  • Hi

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

    it's an awful worry.

I lost two of my best friends a couple of years ago who had more than their fair share of cancer and so I can imagine the kind of worry you have.

ive always had regular smears. This one was delayed because of my pregnancy and covid so I'm hoping it isn't too late. I've put my positive hat on today and only going to worry when there is something to worry about. Maybe! Xxx
