Mum has a rare form of cancer and I'm struggling to cope

We found out yesterday that my mum has a rare form of bladder cancer and it has spread to 2 nodes so the surgeon is doing an operation to take out her bladder and about 20 nodes. This doesnt guarantee that the cancer won't spread. But he said that as it is so rare that this type doesnt respond well to chemo etc. Has anyone or know anyone had this type? Ive told my mum to ask nurse today the actual name of it so i can do some exploring on the internet in case it does come back after surgery. My head is all over the place and im pregnant with my mum and dads first grandchild. Im so overwhelmed, annoyed and upset that this is happening when my mum has a grandchild on the way and we know she wont see him or her grow up. Never thought id be going through this at 33. Need some advice xx

  • Hi Donna1982

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

    Sorry about your mum's diagnosis.

I agree that if you have the name of the cancer you will be able to find out more about it.

However, I am sure you are aware that not everything you read on the internet is accurate so make sure you are getting your information from a reputable source.

We have some information on bladder cancer here.

    I hope it is helpful.

    Best wishes

    Jane

  • Sorry you are going through this. Fight Bladder Cancer have a website and are a charity that also provide support through a facebook closed group. Anyone who is diagnosed with cancer or who has a loved one going through it can join and you will find much information and support there. I have seen others post there about their very rare bladder cancers but can't help more as mine is not so rare. :/

    Hope that helps.
