So hard to except this is happening

My brother in law at the age of 50 was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in sept 2015. He had surgery to remove the cancer and recovered well. He was told they had managed to remove all the cancer and no lymph node involvement. After being home for a week he fell ill with signs of infection. He was re- admitted to hospital and had to go through more major surgery as he had developed a leek around the pancreas. Once again he recovered well but then developed septacimia and was in intensive care. Once again he recovered well and went to see his oncologist whom advised a clinical trial as well as chemo. He had to have another c.t scan prior to treatment and to our devastation we were told the cancer had spread to his liver. He started chemo in end of Nov but could not have the trial. He is doing so well, gained a stone and a half in weight and is carrying on with daily living. The oncologist was shocked to see how well he looked yesterday when he went for his third cycle of chemo. We are looking for advice or anyone with similar stories as he just looks so well and can't believe he is so Poorly

  • Hi Piglet.

I am so happy to read how well your BIL is doing!  Please dont feel that because the cancer has now spread to his liver, that this is the end of the line.  Hopefully, he will more healthy years ahead.  I have had secondary disease in the liver for almost 4yrs now and been on chemo all that time - so there is no reason that he may not do the same.

Just as a  thought   for later on in the year (he has been through quite enough for now!) - your BIL may want to look into liver surgery/ablation/nanoknife in the future.  The very best of luck for his continued good health x

  • Thank you so much for your reply, will pass this information on to my sister and her husband. He is going to get scanned every 3 months so hopefully the cancer may stay dormant or even Shrink. So glad to hear you are doing so well Max xx
