Hi everyone, just found this forum through Facebook. Since I retired aged 60 in November 2012, I have had cancer twice. In January 2014 a 3.1cm kidney tumour was removed through open surgery - partial nephrectomy: Eble Type 2 Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma, Stage T1a – Fuhrman Grade III, and so far my post-op scans have come back clear, fingers crossed for the next one due next month. Then in May this year they discovered Acral Lentiginous Melanoma on the sole (ball) of my left foot. They are not related. Fortunately it was still in the 'in-situ' stage (Stage T0). Since then I have had 3 operations, the first one without a skin graft (10p size) and the second and third, a little larger each time, with a skin graft. The last one was 5 weeks ago and finally the margins of the excised tissue were clear of melanoma. So I am learning to walk again, onwards and upwards. I feel very lucky they were both discovered in the early stages. Just hoping cancer is not reckoning on performing a hat-trick! I found it very difficult to find information about the Acral Lentiginous Melanoma as it is quite rare, so I am planning on creating a YouTube video about my 'patient journey' - my husband was tasked with taking photos, etc. I know we are all different and some people would rather not know all the details, but I want to know everything. My imagination is ten times worse than the medical reality usually! :-)
