Hello..My name is Kim

Hi,

My name is Kim, I'd like to intoduce myself. I'm 58 and about a month ago I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Endometrial Cancer. I also have Cerebral Palsy. In the past 6 months I've had my knee totally removed woke up to find I could no longer walk the way I used to and had to start from scratch. Had to move because my brother and I could no longer manage where we were and now Cancer.

I feel a fraud, because there are so many out there in a much worse situation than myself.

I've been very lucky, my consultant did a total Hystorectomy removing everything including my Fallopian tubes and Ovaries.

I'm at the stage where I'm waiting to hear if I need any Chemo or Radiotherapy. The thought of Chemo scares me probably more than the Cancer.

I hope I get a chance to *talk* to some of you, I wish you all peace, strength and love.

Kim xxxxx

  • Hi Kim

Blimey you have gone through it.

Let me say you are not a fraud, some on here are worse than others but we all have one thing in common we either have or are affected by cancer.

I was diagnosed last September with type 4B Endometrial cancer had the chemo and radiotherapy and am now waiting for the results of my three month scan.

The advice I can give you is start writing down any questions you have, no matter how trivial they seem, so that when you see the Doctor you wont have to rely on memory. Never think that you are wasting the Doctors time the more you know the better prepared you are (thats the way I look at things).

Chemo can be a scary thing but once you start and get into the cycle - like everything else it becomes managable.  I went every three weeks but some people went every week, we had the same dose its just I had a bigger hit at one go.  This decision is down to the Team and may be affeted by age and health (I was 58).  Everyone reacts differently and you do get medication for the side effects.

In my case I was never sick but suffered from pains in my joints and severe pains in my legs this lasted for about 4 days. Your taste buds go haywire and certain foods taste awful - most people describe a metalic taste which I also had and milk tasted horrible - lucky I could drink black tea and coffee but then coffee started tasting awful.

If they recommend chemo then you can always ask questions on here and people will let you know their experiences.
