Hi Roxy,
I know it can be scary waiting for surgery, I just wanted it over with.
I fould going for walks or watching tv, maybe going out for a meal a good thing to take your mind off it.
I felt such relieft once it was done. I did not have the same cancer.
Once they put you to sleep its over in a puff and you wake up.
Hope it all goes well for you, good luck.
Space_1999 Thanks for that. I suppose we wouldn't be normal if we didn't worry. I want it all over with, yet I am scared of it all. However this time next week I should be on the road to recovery.
Hi Roxy, welcome to the forum. Its' a good place to be when dealing with cancer, either for yourself, or for a loved one. I can relate to your fears on your upcoming surgery because I had colon re-section surgery 5 years ago. While you certainly need to be careful and do what you're told after the surgery, it sounds worse than what it really is. Surgery in any form is not a walk in the park, but if you keep open communication with your medical team, you will do just fine. Any pain you have can be controlled with medication. I was scared too since that was the first time I had the need for any major surgery. Since then, I have had several surgeries, some much worse than the colon surgery, and I managed to get through those, so maybe we're a lot tougher than we think.
I'll be looking for a post after your surgery, once you feel up for it, and in the meantime I will be thinking about you. Come on to the forum any time to chat with other forum posters, and get support and reassurance when you need it. Good luck.
Hugs
Lorraine
Hi Lorraine
Wow you have really been through the mill haven't you. I hope you are keeping well at the moment. I am trying my very best to keep positive and cheerful. I have a lovely husband of 26 years and 2 wonderful boys aged 22 and 24. Three weeks after I was diagnosed my brother was diagnosed with stomach cancer so I think it's fair to say it's on all our minds a lot of the time. I am having open surgery first thing on Monday morning. I will then go to HDU then onto the ward. How long were you in for? I am not worried about the pain as I am really good with pain but my other worries are ...colostomy and (vainly) hair loss.
You take care of yourself in the meantime and hopefully we will talk again after Monday xx
Hi Ryan
Thanks for your reply.
I bet you are glad your surgery is all over now although you will likely be sore. I hope you have a speedy recovery and get back on here soon to let us all know that you are feeling better
Take care xx
