Husband has bowel cancer

Just like to say hi to everyone as I'm new on here. My husband has to have chemotherapy for 6 months & then radiotherapy. He was told after the tumour was taken out that the cancer went through the bowel wall & in 15 out of 25 of the lymph nodes & is very aggressive. Everyone keeps saying he's Young to get it as he's 43.
  • Hi Mrs T,

Welcome to this friendly forum and thanks for sharing your story. Wishing you both all the best and plese keep in contact and let us know how your husband get on during his cancer journey, Brian.

  • Hi Mrs T. My wife had bowel cancer and all the treatment = chemo and radio and operation. She now is in remission = I say its gone! We had a big bonfire this evening of all the hospital letters and appointment cards. I full well know the feelings you are both going through - but in every cloud there is a silver lining and we will be thinking of you both and your family at this precious time.

Keep intouch as there are friendly people here with first hand knowledge of bowel cancers and they will help. I don't want to forget you either = they say the partners role is more difficult and emotional than the sufferers. Who knows, but I know it isn't easy!

All the best = lets pray they find a final answer to this aweful illness

    Steven xx

do say Hi to your husband as well please

  • Hi Mrs T,

Welcome to the forum,I had Bowel cancer about five years ago,and also had chemo and daily radiotherapy, although it spread to my liver, both operations were successful, but like your husband it has moved and I now have secondary cancer in lymph nodes in my groin, however after the usual treatment, they were shrunk,I now have blood tests every six weeks and a scan every three months,Glad to say I am doing fine, and lead a normal life, you didn't say how old your husband is,but I am nearly seventy,I play golf(badly)but I am healthy as I can be,so don't be down hearted, please be positive and be strong and I am sure all will be ok,chin up,

    Good luck to you both,

    Alan

  • I was diagnosed with stage 3 advanced bowel cancer aged 42.  I had surgery on 23rd December and had 32 lymph nodes removed 25 were effected. I was to have 6 rounds of chemo but it turned out I was allergic to it, and it was abandoned after the second try as my heart was affected.

My reason to post is to give you hope against all the odds im still here 6 years later.  Good luck with all your husbands treatment , and to you be strong even though it is the worst time of your lives it does bring you closer.

Xx u will be in my thoughts margy x

  • That's great news your wife is in remission.  That's nice that you had a bonfire.  Yes it's very difficult especially as we have two little ones a 3 year old daughter & 6 month old son. Thank you for replying.
