Hello everyone I am new to this forum

Hello All

I am the caregiver to my mother. She is 70 years old but was still in good health before Oral Cancer. This month makes one year that she has been battleing this horrible cancer. My mother has been through two surguries . Her lower leff mandible has been removed .She then went on to Radiation . Three months later the cancer was back so into second surgery. This was supposed to be a salvage surgery but there were to many cancer cells in her cheek and neck area so the doctor stopped the surgery. The cancer is also wraping around her Caroid Artery .

The cancer has caused an open wound in her neck. It started off very tiny and now its the size of a quarter, It drains fluid and has to be packed twice daily. This is just terrible. The pain my mother goes through is really bad. She does have pain medcation to help.

Has anyone here on this forum have oral cancer ? Can you offer any advice ?

  • Hello Sweetpe,

So sorry to hear that your Mum is struggling with things at the moment.
We do have an active group of folks here at Cancer Chat who have personal experience of oral cancer and in particular you might link to consider posting on the thread entitled "Tongue cancer diagnosed 2 days ago" which I have linked for you here. I am sure that the members there will be able to offer some words of support and advice.
We do also have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research who might be able to help. If you would like to speak to one of them you can call them Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (free to call from a UK landline).

    Best wishes,
