Just had cancer surgery

Hi all I am Tony from Cornwall, on 18th November I had the whipple proccedure for pancreatic cancer at Derriford hospital Plymouth.

Next Tuesday is my post surgery appointment and I will find out how much chemotherpy I can expect after Christmas.

As an update I saw the team just before xmas and hey now say I have a rare cancer which started in the ebile duct apparently its 1,000 cases a year trust me!!! Seeing the oncology team in my own hospital Treliske in Truro on tuesday to see what the treament plan is. HAPPY NEW TO ALL :)

  • Hi Tony and welcome to the forum. You have a different type of cancer to me, but I just wanted to say hi and hope your appointment goes well next week. Keep us up to date as I'm sure the information you share may help others with similar cancer to you. I hope you have a good Christmas, take care, Jo xx
  • Hi Tony = just read yr post. My brother in law had pancreatic - but they couldn't operate. I know the whipple is a long op and is fiddly = I know that there has been huge strides in treatment for pancreatic and I am sure it will be okay. Most people find the chemo tiring - so take it easy there. Let us know how it goes. Have a lovely Christmas = steven

I learned to sail in Cornwall = love the place ( we live near Portsmouth now) =

  • Thanks for your reply Steven, small world my son lives si  portsmouth now he works at the new Mary Rose museum in the dockyard, he is front of house manager.

I will post agian after my treatment plan discussion on Tuesday, take care

  • Hi Tony, we look forward to your update on Tuesday, Kathy
  • Hello Tony just had to wish you all the best with your treatment  I live in Cornwall too and my husband also called Tony was diagnosed in 2010 in Derryford in Plymouth then saw the oncology team in Treliske in Truro he had terminal mesothelioma and I sady lost him last year .But just want to say Treliske has a realy good team of oncologists  Drs nurses cant fault anyone realy so good luck on your journey that no one wishes to be on so all the best for 2015..Sueanne

  • Hi Sueann apologies for the late reply. I have just started my second cyle of chemo and apart from odd days of tiredness etc its going ok ish.

It turns out my cancer started in the bile duct which i a less common cancer and potentially vigerous.   scan has shown a possibility of another growth but I am sure the oncology team will keep an eye on it.

Hope you are keeping well and finding some happiness in life.

    Tony
