Hi Simo,
Welcome to Cancer Chat. We do have other Cancer Chat users with experience of lung cancer and I hope someone will be along soon to chat.
You could try using the search function (top right of the page) to find other users and post onto their threads.(that way they'll get a notification email that they have received a reply).
Best wishes,

Hi Simo,
Had cancer nodes in my lung and had two ops last year: Question: there are different types of lung cancer and it would be wrong of me to give you false info, can you be a bit more specific and those of us in similar situations can be more helpful. Pat.
My dad was dx with lung cancer today, has not been staged yet. He had had a cough for 4 months and blood from Saturday he was a heavy smoker. Do these symtoms mean the worst
Hi Knic, don't start thinking the worst! When the ball starts rolling and the cancer is typed and staged and the MDT team have had their meetings, your dad will be given a game plan and things will move more quickly. There was someone a while back whose dad was a smoker he had surgery and things were more positive for him in quick order. Will hunt my brain and this system and get back to you with a member name later today or tomorrow. Patxx
Hi ya Pat. Was that person me whom u mentioned in your last post? Or it could have been Ptang (whom I still keep in touch with)
Hope u are doing ok.
Will catch up with u soon.
Just to let u know dad is doing really well - thanks. Was just wondering tho as he hasn't had a call back for any sort of check up but he did have to have an xray for something else so I wonder if they had a look then? What do u think?
I would be happy to chat to anyone whom needs my help x
Thanks all Leigh x
Hi Simo, and Leigh and Pat....
My dad was diagnosed with cancer 10 months ago after having had a cough and chest infection for several months... Originally they said he had prostate, bone and lung cancer. Obviously it was the most devastating news in the world. The doctor made my parents feel he was not going to be around for very long... After waiting for about 2 - 3 months he had all the scans and got appointments to go and see two specialists.... He did not have lung cancer but had scaring from a fever he had as a child and phneumonia he had in his forties.
His bone and prostate were well established and therefore they did not offer radio or chemo. He gets an implant every three months and I ahve to say is doing very well.... I apreciate every case is different and I ma not trying to build up your hopes but please be patient and wait and see what they tell you. I thought it was the end of the world and Dad wouldn't be with me now but it is all good. Yes he is sick but he ie very positive and I think this makes all the difference. His neighbout who is ten years younger than Dad was diagnosed with prostate at the same time and can be cured. He has had his radio and is on the way to recovery. I saw him at the weekend and he is no negative about the whole thing I think it makes him look and feel worse than he actually is.
I know all this is easy for me to say as I am not the one who is sick and our scenario turned out a bit brighter than we had orginally thought. Leigh came through it all at the same time as me and thankfully her case turned out better than originally led to believe.... there is hope... and you only have to listen to the strnegth of people like Pat, Leigh and others on this site to realise this...
Please keep your chin up and listen to the wonderful people on here who will help you through if you let them...... sorry for going on a bit.....
Take care and keep posting.... Ptang...
Yes Leigh,
It was you I was thinking of, but had not long got out of bed and noooooooo . . . . .coffee to wake the brain cells, its almost 12md now, and only just finished feeding the cats and I have breakfast on this desk as I type and a 2nd coffee on the side. Lovely sunny day so instead of going to the gym (yes thats right, the GYM), think I will do the washing instead! pat xx
Do symptoms give any clue on extent or severity of cancer. My dad has a ct scan tomorrow. I am trying to be positive but not succeeding google has given me a very poor outlook
Hi Knic,
The CT scan will be with high contrast, and as soon as the Oncologist, Radiologist, and all the connected surgical bodes have had what is called an MDT meeting where your dads case, together with others will be fully reviewed and they will then come up with a plan of action. Keep off the net apart from this site, you'll frighten the pants off yourself. Pat xxx
hi simo,i am new to this site too.i was diagnosed with stage 2 nsclc last july.as i am only 41 and a non smoker this was a massive shock.luckily for me they caught mine before it had spread beyond the lung and were able to remove it.i had 1 lymph node involved which was in side the lung and had to have 4 rounds of chemo, just to be safe, they said.finished treatment 18th november last year and went back to work 2 weeks later.a bit crazy i know, but thats me.
i know how you must be feeling at the moment.with you,do you know what type it is yet and what treatment you have got to have?
