Introduce yourself on Cancer Chat

Hello everyone

Today marks a year since we launched the new Cancer Chat, how time flies! In the last 12 months we've shared our stories, laughed and cried and become a real community so I thought it was about time that  we introduced ourselves to you properly.

I'm Sarah and I'm the Cancer Chat manager. I have managed other online communities before coming to Cancer Research UK and am a cancer survivor myself. I went through my treatment in 2009, and so I know how helpful and supportive Cancer Chat can be from personal experience.

There are three moderators who work with me, Renata, Jane and Lucie. All three moderators juggle their Cancer Chat duties with their roles as busy mums and work different shifts throughout the week to ensure that Cancer Chat is appropriately moderated. They help direct members to appropriate information on our main Cancer Research UK website and liaise closely with the specialist nurse team to help answer questions or offer support. Above all, they ensure that Cancer Chat is a safe, secure and welcoming place where anyone affected by cancer can come and ask questions, share experiences and meet people who are also affected by cancer.

We thought it would be fun to tell you a few interesting facts and also share our new avatars which you'll be seeing whenever we are online.

Sarah - is a 70s music addict

Renata - is a mad George Michael fan

Jane -  is a journalist

Lucie - is French

Now it's your turn! We'd love to know more about you, so we've set up this new topic area where you can introduce yourselves and say hello to new members. Don't forget everything is public so don't disclose anything too personal!!

Best Wishes

Sarah

  • Hi M.HEALY-9,

Thanks for introducing yourself. Great advice from AngelintheMaking. If you start a discussion in a topic area that seems the most suitable to you, others can respond with their advice on how you can help your mum.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Lou. Link up to the thread Dizzie mentions and you'll find lots of ladies running around in that t shirt!

  • Nice to meet you mum123. Sounds like you've got a lot on with the cats, dogs and grandchildren, not to mention the husband! Good luck with your op next Monday and thanks for helping make Cancer Chat such a warm and welcoming place.

  • Morning Running Drums! Message received on the importance of checks, screening and scans. Thanks too for your kind words about us.

  • Hi Everyone

Robbo68 and my MIL has today been diagnosed with AML.  Wanting to learn more about it and how I can help her and us cope with everything and the best treatment paths to follow.

  • Hi I am Rubble, aka Barney.

My wife Tracey passed away last year (age 39) after a year long battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Watching her struggle and finally succumb was the hardest time of my life but also the proudest, she was so brave. Since her passing life has been a struggle of conflicting emotions. I have found by talking to my friends on cancer chat that I am not alone in this struggle, that their many elements to grieving that are common to those of us that have lost a loved one. I have found it helps me to be able to help others who are struggling with cancer and loss. One piece of advice, if you have a question ask it. Don't hold back, someone will be there to help.

    Regards

    Barney

  • Hi everyone, Pat here alias cougar69, a bit of an oldie compared to  Dizzie, and Angelinthemaking, Ex theatre nurse, survived colon cancer in 2007, nodes in my Lung in 2010, 1 removed in 2011, a missed one waiting another date with a scalpel. Bit of a night owl, wicked sense of humour, a say it how it is kind of person intending to live a long time yet, just painted the outside of my house this summer, need to see if it does what it promised on the tin!
