New to site - pelvic mass 8 years after hysterectomy

Hi everyone, I found this site this evening following a consultation into a pelvic mass ("multiloculated cyst or possible endometriosis") this afternoon. Tests are still ongoing, I have an MRI tomorrow afternoon, but GP and Consultant are talking it is potentially cancerous. CA 125 was 98, and am awaiting results on two additional blood tests taken today.

In 2018 I had a total hysterectomy for enlarged fibroids. Only on the operating table was it discovered I had severe endometriosis. This led to one fibroid and one fallopian tube having to be left in. My ovaries were always intended to stay but the surgeon said the endometriosis was so bad they weren't coming out anyway. Uterus was sent for testing, results showed non cancerous.

8 years on, now 52, I am facing surgery again; Consultant was clear that the mass had to come out regardless. The worrying has already started - is it cancerous? what about the endometriosis? Letter says ovaries to come out - but how, if they weren't coming out last time?

I don't understand why my body is doing this.

Anyway .. I joined this site because when I had my hysterectomy in 2018 the only thing that got me through was a forum for those having hysterectomies. Without that site and being able to talk to others in my position I really don't know how I would have got through such an uncertain time in my life. I totally believe in connection and support, and hope I can find that here in others with similar experiences, as well as hopefully being able to support others in return.

Best wishes

  • Hello Mrs D and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm really sorry to hear that the pelvic mass that's been found could potentially be cancerous. This must be so worrying but fingers crossed the results from the tests that are being carried out will bring good news and the removal of the mass goes smoothly.

I hope some of our members who been in a similar position will stop by soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you, but if it would help to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

As you say, connection with others is key, so do keep talking to us MrsD as we are here for you and will do all we can to support you during this rather anxious and unsettling time.

    Kind regards,
