I am sorry to hear of the situation you find yourself in. Sometimes a consultant can tell that it might be cancer after seeing the results of your mammogram, but they still need to see the biopsy results to make sure. Don't worry about getting the consultant's phone call so quickly. They like to give us scan results as soon as possible. You will naturally be worried, when your mum has had cancer 3 times.

I was in a similar position when I was going through diagnosis. I lost my mum to secondary breast cancer, after a 12-year battle with the disease. My consultant was pretty sure that I had cancer at my first appointment and, when the biopsy results came back, he was right. 

I had a lumpectomy, but after 6 months I noticed a lump in the other breast. Again, my consultant thought that it was cancer, but a biopsy proved that it was benign. Almost a year after my initial surgery, I found another lump in the original breast and again, the consultant was correct. I then had a double mastectomy. That was all 16 years ago now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

The waiting is certainly a challenge. Try to keep busy, whether with work or pleasure - anything to distract yourself from the wait. Stay away from consulting "Dr Google". Much of the information there is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. This won't give you any answers and will only serve to increase your anxiety.
