Awaiting surgery for invasive lobular cancer

Hi, I'm having mastectomy on 30th September. I'm not too scared about surgery but terrified of what comes after that - thanks gor reading my post xx

  • Hi Mary69,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are terrified of what happens post-surgery. No two cancers are the same and treatment can vary due to a lot of different factors such as the type and stage of breast cancer, patient's age, health conditions. Some cancers are more aggressive than others and these need different treatment than a less aggressive type. Has your consultant discussed what treatment you are likely to have - chemotherapy, radiotherapy or hormone therapy?

You are right not to worry about surgery. I have had a lumpectomy and a double mastectomy. The after effects of these operations surprised me. I was actually more comfortable after the double mastectomies than I was after the lumpectomy. Place your faith in your care team. They do this day and daily and know what they're doing. I am glad to see that you don't have much longer to wait and I sincerely hope that it all goes well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
